I got home from work at 3 and for the first few hours they were on opposite sides of the tank. The new one paid no attention to the female, unless the female initiated contact by charging, or swimming up along side of him or doing the submissive dance. And that's not a typo, the dominant female still does the submission from time to time. Unprovoked as well. It's not like the male is charging her trying to get her to submit. She just does it first.
Since about 7-8 they've been at least staying on the same side of the tank. So for about 3-4 hours now. The male still doesn't show much interest, he's usually staying in place in the current with his tail pointed toward her. He could just be getting used to the tank/other fish, but he's not doing much of what I would call exploring. If he strays for more than 10-15 minutes she will slowly swim over, sometimes just staying near him for a brief few seconds or minutes, sometimes she'll start dancing/twitching. She is definitely making contact constantly. They did not sleep together last night. I couldn't find where he was. They've been swimming in the current about 6-8 inches away from each other for about 20 minutes now.
So basically the footnotes to my novel would be that I'm not sure what to make of it haha.
