Pairing my maroons

Figured it's time to give it a go, hopefully the specimen container trick works cause she's a bit territorial.

Yeah, I have little doubt the male will submit, it's about the smallest clown I've ever seen.
Now the female accepting it, that may be another story.
She's a bit on ****y side, and tough as nails!

mine never nipped or tore fins but the submission was well tested she bodyslammed him over and over forcing him to stay submissive

I did the same thing, found the smallest maroon I could find...My female was beating up the male for while before they finally settle down. Since the male was so small, he can hide under rocks and I think that was what made him stay alive because at that time...my female was determine to kill! Took almost a month for the female to accept the male in the same tank. I guess the hardest thing for me during the war was try to feed the malewas difficult because everytime the male try to come up to eat...the female went for the kill.
Good luck!!! They are beautiful!!!

looks good to me! shes going to beat on him either way, but just let it happen, unless your SURE it'll die!!

Well, after one day I tried to release new guy, and she immediately bit one fin pretty good.
Luckily I was able to catch him right away and put back in specimen container.
This may take a while.
KTTSF, a month?
I sure hope this goes faster than that.

read my method the trick is to catch HER not him let him move into the nem and after 48 hours put her back in

MINE NEVER NIPPED A FIN it cant hurt to try it also you need holes in the specimin container for waterflow and so they can "smell eachother"

i cant promise it will work but i can promise it will help

GSM,

How ironic that in the same picture you caught your female pinning your male, you can also see her devilish red eyes.

Thanks GSM, I'll try that tonight when she's sleeping.
She's tough to catch otherwise.
I didn't think of reverse isolation.

Yeah davoncean, almost a month. Nipping and tore fins are just part of pairing them. I had my male in the container for 4 days and then release it. He was hiding under a cave and sometime my female guarding the cave and wait for him. At one point, my female dragged the male to the anenome and spit him out to feed the anenome like the way she did when I put the rawshrimp in during feeding time. The truth is she did killed 2 small male before when I try to pair her up. This male is more careful and hiding in cave mostly until she finally showing signs of being ok with him. The previous 2 were slower and love wondering around the tank. So I guess luck is part of it but also depend on how the male defense himself. Hopefully just do the hiding instead of wondering around or fighting back in the beginning.

i donno but he healed overnight.

I donno about that month thing either. mine was in the box 2 days. I was gonna aim for a week but he escaped in the morning. ( iwould let him out about 2 hrs b4 lights off if there was a choice)

She chased him from powerhead to powerhead where he would hide, and he wouldent submit for awhile. but he eventually did the shimmys and she let him be. (she wasent to keen on leaveing her nem to do the chaseing anyway)

the next day he would sneak up to the nem and start acclimateing himself, and she would see him and then he would swim away. he had to sleep under it a few days, but after that its been home sweet home

I'm a little hesitant to let loose, since she killed one b4 I could even get it out of the tank.
This new one is even smaller.
I'm also afraid of scarring the new guy.
I may try to catch female tonight, only thing is I think she sleeps under nem, might be tough.
The container male is in has slits, so she can smell him.
She doesn't seem as frantic as the first time I tried this.
That's why I thought it would be OK to let out.
But she took a good bite off his fin.
I'm going to have to go w/ the conservative approach.

davocean, nope. he was just so young he dident color in yet. he was about 3/4 of an inch when i got him. hes all colored up nowadays :)

My female was frantic with the container. head butting the plstic, biting it, freaking out really. and the worst part was, the male dident even flinch, he acted like he knew he was safe. so he wasent even moving out of the way when she would head butt n stuff.

Yeah, wish mine was a head butter and not a biter.
My female is a WSM and the young male is a GSM, hoping that's not going to be an issue.
I have read about people pairing them successfully.
New male is tiiinnny, but already has a touch of yellow.
