Pairing up black saddlebacks?

With it being around 3" and alone, I would bet that it is a female. Your best bet is to get a smaller one.

Might want to get a little breeder box too -- to put the new one in, while in the tank. Female saddlebacks can be pretty aggressive.

thanks guys. lfs was trying to convince me they had another one that was "slightly larger and most likely female." ill go ahead and order a smaller one and do as you said todd.

if it were to place the smaller one in QT for 4-5 weeks would it turn female?

It depends on how old/mature the clown is. If it is a mature male, it could easily begin the change to female in that time. You also don't know how long it has been on its own before you got it. The physical change may take longer, but the behavior can change in a very short time. If it is a young/immature clown you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

Get one that is 1.5" or less and you should be fine.

A. polymnus get quite large, although your 75gal should be a fine size. Good luck.
