Par 38 LED spotlights

You'd need a lot of them. I run a 6 bulb Sunpower and have 6 par 38's and a 36 watt led strip for supplemental lighting on my 40 breeder. There is far more "shimmer" on my 90 with a pair of 250 Radiums.

Yeah - that's what I figured. I think if want the shimmer I will need to go with a MH/ T5 combo fixture. I'm curious - since you have 2 tanks, one with T5 and one with MH ....which lighting option do you prefer?

Nothing beats a few Radiums, not even close.....

Yeah - I just came across a great deal on a Aqua Photon fixture 72 l x 21w. 3 250w MH + 12 36" t5s. Usually $3k I can get new for $2k. I am thinking this will give me great mix of daylight shimmer with 14 or 20k MH bulbs and a lot of blue and a few purple t5s.

Any thoughts?

Looks like sweet fixture to me.
I just did a quick search on it.

I got 2 of these for my 29 Biocube. Problem is I cant find a floor lamp to go with these. A ceiling track is not an option. I saw clamp ons that would work but that would be a last resort.

Anyone seen a floor lamp to help?

I have a ten gallon rimless with a 4 bulb T5 fixture on it right now. I just purchased one PAR38 bulb from rapidled.com

I purchased the 20K 7 LED bulb with 80 degree optics

The tank footprint is 20 x 10

Please offer some suggestions on what I should do with the lighting:

I could run just the PAR38 up high. Will it be enough coverage for SPS?

Could I somehow use both the T5 fixture and the PAR38 bulb?

Thank you in advance for all of your suggestions and input.

The single led bulb mounted at a height for good coverage will grow sps diredtly under the bulb and LPS and softies at the edges. You will need two for total tank coverage though. There is no need for the T5s, but you can use them if you'd like.

How many and at what optics would I need to cover a 96x18x18 SPS tank. What height should they be placed off the water?
I want to get a away with the bare minimum as I am on a tight budget.

12 with 60* optics would give good coverage. The mounted height will need to be tested by you manually. Mine are about 5" above the water on a 22" deep tank. I should have monted them about 7" above the water for a tad better coverage.

The tank will only be 18" wide (maybe 20") and will only have SPS in the center on islands - I was thinking I could get away with 6-7 spaced evenly over each of the islands? What do you think?

I do not think so. I have 9 over my 125 that is 72" long and 18" wide. Maybe 10 for a minimum with dark/dim edges.

i havent hung them yet but they will be hung from a chain to the ceiling
