Par 38 LED spotlights

anenomebuff did you order those ?

Yes. I ordered 3. I may re-aquascape the tank so I only need 3 over my 125. We'll see if I can pull it off. I am planning a 70 gallon cube for next year, so they will do just fine for that tank. I should get them before the week is out.

Just finished with the changeover to LED on this 150 maintenance tank.
5) 40 degree bulbs and 1) 60 degree to put light under the center brace.

Thanks for posting pics zygote, it looks great. Did you mention yet what color temperature they are? What's your opinion of the 12KK vs. 20KK color wise?

They are 20k's. I have another tank further back in this topic that has a mix of 12k and 20k. I like the 20k's better.
Thanks for the pics Zygote, What is size of this tank? How far are bulbs from water surface.
150 gallon tank. Bulbs are mounted with ceramic lamp sockets through the top of the canopy. Bulbs are about 6" off the water.

Is this a 48x24x30 150g? Doesn't look like a 6ft tank to me.
No, it's not a 48x24x30. It's not 6' either.
It's a custom built ******* seperating the lobby and a patient room in a chiropractors' office.

1st order of Evilc66's par38 bulbs

1st order of Evilc66's par38 bulbs

I have been running these lights for about 2 months now.
I plan on possibly adding either 5 or more of these bulbs, and arranging the lights in 2 rows of 5.
I am also considering adding t5's.

I've been running one of these lights over a small frag tank, with mixed results. Half of the corals are OK, the other half died. Half of the sps's color up well, the other half lost all color. Will move most frags back into the DT. Over the past month, I've had zero growth.

The nanotuners and ledios are very blue, maybe even too blue for me. With some supplements the 6500Ks may look pretty good, and brighter to the eye. I am more concerned about power savings now than I am about color temps.

Have you tried to determine why it is 1/2 ok and 1/2 not. Could be placement.
My corals actually have never looked better, but I have found out that the light is brighter than it seems directly in the center of the spot beam. I put some new sps frags in a week ago and actually had to move them to the sand to get them to fully open.

The nanotuners 20K are more blue than I like, but not real bad. Mixing 12k and 20K is best for my eyes, but even the all 12k wouldn't be bad. I just would not want daylights, too yellow for my taste, at least they are on my smaller tank using T5's.

They're actually not as blue as I was expecting. They look slightly bluer than my Phoenix 14k bulb, but I think that's only because they're not as bright.

I agree, they are not as blue as some of the pictures indicate. The difference between the 12k and the 20k is not much. They don't seem as bright but in the center of the beam the par is pretty high.

They definitely make the corals "pop" more than the Phoenix bulb though.

Do you guys think the 20k bulb would make the corals pop more or less VS the T5 ATI blue plus lamps that I think might have a similar color?

I've never run T5's myself, but from the T5 fixtures that I've seen, I don't think there's anything that will give you the pop and color options that T5's will.

Not the case. I had T5's on the same tank that I now have the led's on and the difference is very obvious. T5's are good but not as good as the led's.
