Par 38 LED spotlights

I can see the day soon when we will be able to plug and play with the emitters. Spots, strip lights, whatever. What is needed is a universal standard so we don't have to keep purchasing the entire fixture.
 
Supplementing LED's with T5's is like copying the info from the computer screen onto paper by hand instead of using the 'print' button.

If you know how to mix and match white and blue LED's your colors should be similar to your T5's. After all, the pigments in the T5's are a mix of blue and white too. When I added the 453nm Panorama, it really toned down the royal blue Crees and made the overall effect more pleasing to the eye.

Now I need a PAR meter to test them. They are 2x30 watt single LED emitters, one blue and one white.

Are these plug and play or did you have to modify the wires?
 
Does anyone that is using the Par 38 lamps have a Par meter to help me with a little project? I need to test some mesh that I have for a tank cover to see how much Par I am losing. I would just mail a piece of the material if someone is willing to test it for me. No need to send it back. Thanks.

Most of the white LEDs we use also don't seem to have as crisp of a red output as most of us like, so something like a Fiji Purple or one of the red Wavepoint bulbs might be kinda nice too.
 
I would say the Crees in the Par 38's are a pretty crisp white. I think some of the Par 38's are only 6500 which is too yellow for my taste. You can add red, which might be an interesting effect if you like more purple.

Right, because nobody supplements their lighting anymore :hmm4:

Although I have not read this entire thread (I have read the majority of it), it certainly is not convincing that these floodlights are better at providing a balanced spectrum over a broad portion of your fish tank like T-5's have proven. I personally think this thread has been a bigger testament that these make for better supplements to T-5's than standalone light fixtures.
 
i believe PAR38's can be used as standalone lighting with no issue's the key here is to find the right blend of LED's wether it be warm white, Cool white, Neutral white, Royal blue, cool blue, or a mixture of all 5 maybe nesscessary to achieve 100% results but from what i've seen on my own setup PAR38's by themselves can grow and keep coral just fine

The only issue i see is with color and color doesen't nesscessarily mean that a coral isn't healthy or thriving, it's only for personal appearance and enjoyment that corals have vibrant colors

I'm getting 4 custom PAR38's made right now with 1 neutral white led and 4 cool blue leds per lamp, IMO these will help to improve the coral color but it will take some time with these over my tank and corals to gauge this, i'm trying my hardest to get to the bottom of coral color's and LED's role with them

So if the custom lights i'm having built solve the issue of color, than i think the T5 and MH fans will be switching over sooner than later

I've always been a fan of T5 and MH and from what i've seen LED's can do the same exact thing as those setups but for a lot less heat and energy consumption, upfront cost is the only difference between the two

Ya I noticed that. But it says 50w next to the picture so I am assuming a typo. I think just the 30w in the title is wrong cause the lumens say 4000, the 30w says 2200.
 
beeker i have a custom 4bx1w from them and the color is real nice the 1 white blends nicely, it looks weird if you cover up the white to see what an all blue would be like way too fake good choice in keeping the 1white

These lights have been proven to grow corals, max out a par meter, run cool, consume way less energy than any other light, cost less than any other set up, and just look great overall.
What more do you expect from them?
