Par 38 LED spotlights

@ halcyonism......

WOW, those really light that tank up. I really like the look of the tank with them and that arch is awesome. The fixture is good looking and it looks like you will be able to raise and lower it as needed. Good deal.

Thanks, I am very pleased with how the fixture turned out and the look of the Rapid LED par bulbs. It is also great to know that if / when we need more light down the road all I need to do is purchase another $6 fixture and add it to the track.

Thought I would show the lights off with my new addition and a few of the Sr. members. These were taken under only three bulbs due to light acclimation. I may keep it with only three. And to those wondering, yes the clowns are living together with all fins intact.

I am thinking setup 40gallon Breeder tank. I have BoostLED 2white/3Royal Blue, and 1White/4 Royal Blue. They both have 60 degree optic. Do you think it is good enough for 40 Breeder with lights hanging around 7-8inches from the water surface? It is Mixed reef.
Do I have buy another one to get good cover. I like the color of 1White/4Blue one. Thanks

With the 60 degree optics you may need to hang them a bit higher then 7-8 inches in order to get good coverage.

You will need 4 boosts to get good coverage with acceptable PAR. Four of them mounted at 7-8" will be good.

Anemonebuff, how high do you think I should hang my two Ecoxotic 40* PAR 38s over my 14.5"x18" refugium/frag chamber? I can hang them pretty high, if needed. Just looking to get the most uniform, usable coverage.

I would guess about 12". However, I would hold them up by hand and use a tape measure to measure the height when it looks good to your eye. Optics are tricky and not all 40* optics are the same. Plus asthetics will need to be taken into account. LEDs w/40* optics can be mounted quite high. Santoki mounted his a few feet above his tank and maintains SPS corals throughout the tank. Beware not to burn your corals.

The water will only be 14.5" deep, and the highest I can go is 26.5" lens to tank bottom (which works out to the ~12" you recommended). I'll try the eyeball method also - thanks!

I actually do 2 island rocks and have the LED just shine on those 2 rocks, and the bottom will be low light corals like Scoly and Acan. Is this still work with just 2 LED?
Thanks

Thanks.

Give it a shot and see how you like it. That's the great thing about the PAR 38s, if you need more light just add another bulb or two.

Hey guys, I am a bit confused on what would be the best set up and how many par38's I should run on my cube. It's 20"x20"x16" any advice would be appreciated and they will be replacing my 150MH

2 Rapid LED par38 or 2 Boost LED par30. The Rapids will be brighter, but 16" is not so deep and the Boost LEDs will be fine.

Hey so I am just getting ready to order 2 par38's and I was wondering if I should go 60 or 40 optics. I was thinking 60 and this is a sps tank with some lps

It depends on the depth of the tank and where the SPS will be in the tank. For a 30" deep tank you would need the 40s, however, you will need 2 of them to cover the same amount of space as one 60.

I added a couple Rapid LED PAR 38's to a 150 watt DE Ushio 20K + 4 T5, 24 inch fixture. To my eye, they make the tank a lot brighter when they're on. Currently running them only an hour a day. Got them with 80 degree optics. My tank is rimless. Here's a few pics of how I mounted them.

I am doing a 240 G build and was planning on using the ATI PM fixture but wanted to try to get some shimmer on the water. I was thinking one of these could give a shimmer spotlight to the tank simulating the sun shining in on the bottom of the tank. Do you think one of these spotlights would be strong enough to not get compeletly washed out they the ATI fixture?

You'd need a lot of them. I run a 6 bulb Sunpower and have 6 par 38's and a 36 watt led strip for supplemental lighting on my 40 breeder. There is far more "shimmer" on my 90 with a pair of 250 Radiums.
