Par 38 LED spotlights

Hello all! I was reading through this and was interested in setting this up as well. How many bulbs (and at what optic) would I need for a 30 Gallon Long (36.5" X 12.5" X 17")? I was thinking maybe three hung from the top spaced out in a straight line along the length of the middle of the tank. What do you think? Any feed back would be appreciated, thanks! And if this works, how can I go about being a part of the group buy?

Hi, I am soon to be setting up a 100 gallon tank ( 60"x18"x20) and I was wondering your opinions on this bulb set up. 6 bulbs, 3 -12k and 3 -20k.The bulbs will be placed about 12" off the water, with 60 degree optics. Will these bulbs work to maintain some lower light sps, LPS,and maybe a clam? Thanks, Fish77

I currently have 6 with 80 degree optics on my 120 and am pleased with it so far. The nice thing about the PAR bulbs is that you may continue to add more until you are satisfied with the amount of light that you have / need.

Do you think I can get away with just 2?

You need at least 2 to cover 24" of tank IME. I use 3 in the center of my 125 and could get away with 2 on each of the outer edges if I wanted. You need the 3rd in the center because the light needs to overlap to look uniform accross the tank, especially where each 2' section meet.

You could get away with it if you space the bulbs properly and mount them at the correct height. My only issue with you plan is that you are staggering bulbs in different Kelvins. These spotlights will make the tank under each bulb look different and your tank will look like it has color stripes. Unless they are mounted very high or close together, the colors will not blend well at all. With these bulbs I recommend that you use the same K rated bulb and add supplements like stunner strips for additional blue lighting when using the 12Ks.

Can you just plug the rapidled.com PAR38 20K 80 optics bulb into a dimmable desk lamp? The ones that you just touch the base and it dims a couple times then turns off, then back on again with your touch. Just curious.

What kind of fixtures have people been using without canopies? I'm planning on putting 2 of these over my 28g nanocube and am now in a quandry on how I'm going to mount them. I understand the bulbs are pretty heavy so I'm a little nervous to use a clamp with a gooseneck. Any suggestions?

Thanks!
