Paracentropyge Venusta Experience?

Any other Venustus Angel Keepers?

I picked up a 2" Specimen a few days ago from a Fish store that had this guy for a few weeks. Readily eats pellets, frozen and speriluna flake. Beautiful Fish. But from what I've read, not many have kept them alive. Any tips or suggestions. He's currently in a 20 gallon tank, 15lbs of LR from my 180 system.

Sorry for the bad pic. I'm waiting for my Reeflux 12k Bulb to arrive. This photograph was taken under 20k Coralvues.

I miss mine. IT lasted a few months but never took to feeding very well. I probably introduced it to my tank to soon after I got it and it never got very well established, even though it was eating.

Gorgeous specimen. My advice from my experience is to be very observant of it as it probably won't be fully acclimated to captive life for a couple months. They don't take well to being bullied at all.

Biggest issue with these guys is gettin them to eat. If he's already eating all those foods then not much different than any other dwarf.

ditto 100%

Have had mine for about a year and a half. Mine eats everything I put in there, does prefer to stay under rock and ledges, but definetly is not a "hider". He gets along with everything in the reef, no problems with any corals and or inverts.

Nick, I wonder if yours is unusual for having so much purple on the forehead? Or maybe it's just due to the smaller size?

The problem with Venustus, even if you get them to eat, is that most of them originate from the Phillipines where they are caught with cyanide. There is no way to tell if the fish received a liver-destroying, sublethal dose of cyanide. In many cases, a fish may eat and eat but never really gain weight and they often die after a few months because they cannot fully metabolize the food they eat. Good luck with your fish though.

Emoezekielsr5- Beautiful specimen you picked up.

I ditto the previous posters info. i recently had an opportunity to purchase a "pair" of Venustus but wound up passing due to the fact the fish were not eating at all with the supplier for the 2-3 weeks he had them in QT. These fish are primarily brought in from the Phillipines, and unfortunately they still utilize cyanide collecton of fish. Good luck with your specimen and keep us posted.

Tried keeping them a few times, they never are with gusto and did not make it out of QT. A local fish store has one in a mixed reef display tank, it has been there a year and a half. If yours is eating I think your odds are already much better.

I have had mine since June of '10 -- picked it up from DD -- and it has been doing great ever since. It started eating prepared foods within minutes of being released into my tank. It was a bit shy at first, not surprising since at one point it was housed with 2 other dwarf angels, but settled in nicely.

I now have it in a 40 breeder, and is the only dwarf.

When I first put it in the tank -- lots of blue/purple at the crown,

Very nice looking fish. After seeing pictures of them makes me want to get another one again. Lost mine last year and it was eating flakes and pellets.

One of my if not my favorite small angel ( affordable)

A while back kept one for over 3 years that unfortunately did not make it in a tank transfer.
Been looking for a healthy one for a while and finally about 5 months ago came across this one that has been in my reef since then, beautiful fish.

They all have been eating Roger's Reef food since they got inot the tank.

Here's my old one
