Paracheilinus Attenuatus (Diamond Tail Flasher wrasse)

I got mine from NY Aquatics. Doing fine. Only problem is he's now bully of the tank. Chases all male wrasses including my Lineatus. I keep hoping some fish will put him in his place.

I need yours, mine was scared of all the other fish before even meeting them

Mine was like that for about a week. Before I got the diamond tail my McCoskers was top dog but not really a bully. Overnight the diamond tail took over. McCoskers is now in permanent hiding. Only comes out for food.

With the exception of RS 8line flashers, I haven't had great results combining multiple mixed flashers.

I always heard the eight line was the most aggresive flasher. I think Hunter said that in his writeup on wrasses. I had 3 male flashers including the McCoskers and no major problems. The McC would chase occasionally but nothing major. The diamond tail is surely a bully. No casualties yet. BTW, I have a 120g tank.

Thanks for the updates. I think that I'm going to order one tomorrow.

Interesting to hear about the aggressiveness of the flashers. I thought they were all mellow for the most part. Right now I just have an eight line and a linespot. The eight line is the more dominant of the two but outside of some flashing around lights out they pretty much ignore each other. I had two male eightlines in my old 120 for a little over a year and they were fine together.

Mine is still doing great (one from the first batch NYA received at the start of the recent influx); very bold amongst most of the other wrasses. I need to photograph him soon; he goes nuptial each evening at feeding time and turns into something I've never seen photographed in the species.

He's also amongst a P. bellae and they pay no attention to each other. The attenuatus squabbles with the other Cirrhilabrus occasionally. I've never had an issue mixing Paracheilinus.

IME/IMO, yes. But P. octotaenia is also much more like a Cirrhilabrus in behavior (and size) rather than a Paracheilinus.

This is my experience as well. P. attenuatus pays no attention at all to either P. bellae, but has no problem chasing basically any of my Cirrhilabrus. No damage; just flexing its muscles...

Well the flame and diamond tail arrived this morning. While I was floating the bags the diamond looked very stressed and I wasn't sure if it was DOA. The flame seemed active in its bag. After temp acclimating them I set them up in separate containers to start drip acclimating them. The water that the diamond tail was in smelled a little foul. I added some Prime but after a few minutes I decided just move it over to the other container with the flame wrasse and it seemed to perk up a bit. My qt salinity was pretty close to the water they came in so I just did a quick acclimation and got them in the qt tank. The diamond tail was starting to explore this afternoon and flashing a little bit this evening, so it appears it has cleared the first hurdle. The flame has been in hiding, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it starts to come out tomorrow.

Got home tonight and was happy to see it out and about along with the flame wrasse. Fed them a little frozen and a few flakes and they both appear to be eating well. Still shy when I approach the tank but that is to be expected.

Well my diamond tail has been in my qt for a week and seems to be doing OK. It eats aggressively but is not very bold in exploring the tank and tends to keep to a darker corner. Hopefully its just a matter of adjusting to captivity over the next couple of weeks. I think that I will give it another week and the do a round of prazi pro.

Unfortunately the flame died after a few days of what appeared to be a swim bladder issue. Nyaquatics promptly gave me a credit for it.

Here is my DT from DD, have had him 6 months or so? Very beautiful and active fish.

After a few weeks in qt and two rounds of prazi pro I introduced my attenuatus to my display. I'm happy to report that it is doing great. Very active and bold fish.
