Paracheilinus nursalis --- Flasher wrasse from Indonesia

I think if you were to search for P. nursalim on RC you would find you are not alone in finding this fish spectacular and hoping it will be available to the hobby at some time.

Ahh. I probably should've searched under P. Nursalis. I did a search of the full name and didn't see any post on it.

It was available a few years ago at a fairly hefty price tag. I know one came into NJ, but no clue what happened to it after that.

Not, P. nursalim, the area it is from is remote, so much so that there are very few pictures of them. None, as of this date have entered the hobby, and it will likely be some time before it does.

Other Paracheilinus species that command a hefty pricetag, but are available from time to time would be P. bellae and P. piscilineatus.

Sorry wrong answer, I'm 100% sure which wrasse it was that was offered up for sale. Any idea where that last Claire wrasse went to? I know one was collected not to long ago with those peppermints. Just take the Diamond tail for instance, they were extremely rare and at one point I had one of two that were known alive and well in captivity, now they seem very attainable. I'm not saying the nursalim will ever fall into this catergory, but you never know. I don't even see the Lancealtous around any more. And not the cheap pintail, I mean the expensive one. I can't recall the exact name off the top of my head at the moment.

Don't forget P. mauritius :) PIA had one a couple of months ago.

Thanks! I did forget that.

When I responded I was thinking of the Madagascar Flasher, P. hemitaeniatus, that made its way to the hobby last year.

The Mauritius flasher is P. piscilineatus

There have been a handful of C. claire collected, all have made their way to Japan or Singapore. One was acquired by the rare fish keeper known as Digiman.

The increased availability of P. attenuatus has to do with the African collectors, just collecting them, they used to come in as assorted flashers and were side catchs with Mckoskers, now the collectors know people will buy them.

C. lanceolatus, not cf. lanceolatus, is never available in high numbers, due to being collected at great depths, combine that with the fact that there is more of a market for expensive fish in Japan and Singapore, the large adult size they attain, and their feisty attitude, there are few aquarists, and thus few LFS, that want to shell out the cash for it. Though there was one for sale last Autumn at Elos Aquastudio in NJ.

There were actually two at Elos in NJ, the one last autumn and the female from almost two years ago. Neither sold for the asking price. The female was listed at 2200 and it was offered to me for 1500, I still passed on it. It was a small fish and still a Juvi/female.

^ And the more recent one of those was later shown to be C. roseafascia, but I digress.

The female a while back came via Japan, just as they all do.

Quite the price for a roseafascia.
