Pastey's 200DD

Ordered some new equipment today. It was either this stuff or a Reefbreeder Photon48 light. The lighting upgrade will have to wait for now. Almost bought an EB8 to go in this order but I held back for now since it's more a luxury to consolidate my wiring.

Does anyone run dual thermometers with their Apex? One in the sump and one in the DT? I considered ordering a 2nd thermometer as a fail-safe but talked myself out of it. Is it worth the redundancy?

Pre-Ordered
Neptune AFS

Ordered
Neptune PM1 (for PH probe)
Standard PH probe
Red Sea Pro salt (175g) - I'm basically down to no salt left from the 2 buckets I bought.
NLS sinking pellets (300g) - wanted to try them since they're pretty popular.

Just a heads up you know the Pro salt has higher numbers for the top 3?

I've been using RSP for 3 months. It's never really shown me any problems. Corals seem to be alright with it but the tank is still young. I used ESV before with my nanos but it costs about 20% more per volume.

I wasn't saying that as a bad thing. Red Sea Pro has higher numbers than the regular Red Sea Salt. Since they both had different purposes I didn't know if you were going for growth and used the regular salt or going for color and used the Pro salt.

Cat really likes the new fish. Here she is plotting a way to get a closer look:

Just to note, I used to think my clowns were pigs. These butterflies eat an enormous amount of food (by comparison). I hope my AFS comes in this week or I may not have any softy corals left if they decide they aren't being fed enough. I expect these guys to grow quickly and I don't intend to hinder them by feeding lightly :)

Holidays screwed up my deliveries. Everything but the AFS shipped out last Friday but that won't arrive until next Monday. AFS shipped out this morning but it won't arrive until next Wednesday. :( I knew the AFS would be delayed since it was a pre-order but I had hoped to get everything else in Friday. Poop.

On the way...time to hide my modules away from moisture and salt creep a little better. Need to order an EB8 so I can finish putting the important things into programmable outlets.

Updated my Apex to the latest firmware last week as well as installed my PM1/pH probe and my AFS. Tweaked some of my programming after I ran into a hiccup caused when switching the temperature probe from the EB module to the PM1 module (for temperature corrected pH readings). I had to go back and rename all my Temp probes.

To note on things good and bad, I've noticed a rapid increase in film alage as well as a turf like algae on my CeramEco rock. I've upped my feedings to keep my butterfly pair better fed so I'll likely have to add to my clean up crew as well as increase my water change intervals to keep up.

My two larger clowns have also displayed uncharacteristically blemished "skin". I fear it was a combination of having to fight for food with the ravishingly hungry butterflies and possible temperature swings caused by my Apex issues. For the time, I'm supplementing my pellet feeds with frozen to make sure they're well fed. They still show plenty of feeding response and I've not noticed any ill-behaviors.

I also fear my temp. swings have had a detrimental effect on my 2 SPS frags as I have not seen much polyp extension in the previous 2 days.

For now, I am not planning any new additions of fish or coral until everything has stabilized.

Now that the holidays are over, I've finally placed the order for a Reefbreeders Photon 48. Much overdue and I'll likely add a second down the road once lighting demand increases. For right now, this will be adequate.

I added a male red head solon fairy wrasse last week (my first wrasse) and I'm really digging his colors (no other blues in the tank) and his active swimming. I think he helps bring some of the more shy fish out and about as well.

Expecting new light to arrive possibly next week so I went ahead and go the ball rolling on my next invert addition. Spoke in length with the LFS owner I buy most of my livestock from and he is supposed to call his supplier today to find what I'm looking for so I hope to hear good news from him later on today.

In anticipation, I've ordered:

I lurk *cue James Bond music*

Our local club/forum has a WWM contributor/know-it-all who has shown success in keeping/treating gigs. and haddonis. I've got a pretty strong handle on the basics but it's nice to have someone in town to help if I get stumped. Looking forward to the challenge as well as getting the chance to practice what I've learned.
