paying it forward

Kevin was so generous in donating a tank during our time of need, at his house he gave a tour of his great looking tanks, fish room, and even pitched in some very nice frags.

In that spirit: I want to start a pay it forward thread; feel free to list anything you would part with cheap etc for someone in real need.

I have some ten, twenty and 55 gal glass tanks if anyone ever needs one in an emergency or knows of a young person just getting started and is in need; please call on me. These are not for sale or for just because. Only for someone in a pinch. They can pay me by giving something else down the road to another in need.

I know we already do a lot of that here in the form of advice, cheap/free goodies and live stock, to our fellow reef keepers. I just wanted advertise the fact.

I also have a pretty good collection of back issues of many aquarium magazines with a couple years of Coral magazine to loan out free of charge. Very helpful to someone planning a new tank or considering serious changes to tanks they already have.

Thanks again Kevin: in my opinion you are the true spirit of a reef keeping club!!!

I am just glad I could help out. I like the idea of people giving when someone is in need and not just taking out of greed. (wow I rhymed too :D )

Your thread is a great idea and I would hope that it gets the ball rolling for our members to get together and be a better organization/community to be a part of than it already is. I have almost never visited someone's reef setup without going home with at least one freebie frag. Thanks to all of you for helping me get past my first year and now I can finally give back.

It is through times like these that friendships are formed instead of just another transaction where you might buy my tank and I go buy something else with the money. My son asked how much I was getting for that tank last night and I told him that some kids needed it so I gave it to them. He looked surprised and it made me proud as a father to be able to instill that moral character into him and hopefully it will stick with him in the future.

I couldn't have gotten much for that old setup and the feeling I did recieve in return from it PLUS the giving that others may do will far outweigh any monetary gains that I could've seen.

Dave, you are obviously a caring teacher or you would've just told the students, "too bad we lost our tank" instead of driving all that way to get their system up again. What comes around TRULY DOES go around.

I hope nobody that REALLY knows what a jerk I am reads this... it may ruin my tarnished image.

I'll vouch for Kevin being a jerk. He helped me install some plumbing in my tank and drank a whole 2 bottles of water without replacing them. The guy is morally bankrupt! =)

I don't care what anyone says about that Kevin guy, he's ok in my book!

I will say this, folks have been more than generous in helping me. I dabble in a few other hobbies and believe me, you don't see this level of generosity.

Maybe we can sticky this or similar thread for reference to those in need of urgent help?
