If you folks can import more clowns like the one pictured below I'll join your club also. It's a wild caught picasso clown from SI. The clown resides at a fish store in Orange County, CA.
Because a lot of people want some to breed them and make bank, but very few people can, why do you think 2 incredible fish (Clarion and Conspic angels) are still for sale on DD? Because they cost more than a used Nissan 240sx....

If they were the most sought after as they state people would pay that much for them, they spent almost twice as much for the lighting maroon when they first came out.
Trust me there are plenty of people willing to spend the money for clowns but not ugly ones like these
Instead of a white face I wish this clown had a "helmet" look like picasso. It would have been much cooler looking.
As far as designer vs. purist argument it's pretty much pointless. To each his or her own. I do think that once you have owned a designer clown you realize they are still clownfish, have the same basic needs and instincts. As such you become more open minded and acceptable. And yes there are many non-designer clowns with deformities. If someone is trying to stay pure by mimicking nature that doesn't always make them a better or more sophisticated hobbyist than someone who keeps designer clowns.
I gather you mean the "one in a million mutated MochaVinchi", their breeding attempt resulted in a bizarre and yet to be named variety of no thanks! That face is just flat out freaky. Looks like the fish is wearing a skeleton skull Halloween mask! http://www.seaandreef.com/marine-ornamental-fish/clownfish/black-davinci-clownfish

Lol there were Lightning Maroons selling for over 10K actually. Het ones didn't sell for that much though.
Plus, as I said, you could make some serious money on them.
