Peacock Mantis and Oceanic Cube

I have a chance to get a 30g Oceanic Cube with all the bells and whistles at a great price. I know that Oceanic tanks typically use thicker glass. With that being said, is the glass thick enough to house a 5" and growing peacock mantis? I am not a big fan of acrylic tanks, and the price of a 29-30g Sea Clear is about 2/3 of what the 30g cube complete would be costing me. Thanks

I going to go ahead and say if you really really want to take that chance go ahead, but I won't promise you anything. Just know that a six inch peacock can smash glass. so DON'T tease it from the outside. Make sure it has a stellar burrow (LR, sand bed, and rubble). ... just be sure it's generally all round happy.

Do you know how thick is the glass exactly? 1/4 inch for example is nothing for an angry peaccock.

justin my peacock is in a 33G cube and the glass is very thick, im going to say close to 10mm, my peacock has hit the glass and its no problem

My peacock, when approaching "molting time", beats on the glass (well, "acrylic") a lot. It's very loud, enough to wake me up through a closed door and about 30 feet total distance. OK, I'm a light sleeper... I would be "wary" of glass tanks, but anything over 6mm or so I would not be too concerned about.

I have mine in a glass tank........ Just expect the worse and hope for the best!!!

It's been said in other threads, but usually when a glass tank breaks from a large mantis' strike, it's the bottom pane.
Just lay down a thing piece of plexiglass/acrylic on the bottom and then cover with several inches of sand.

I have my Peacock in an Oceanic 30 cube. The glass thickness is 5/16", so he could probably break it if he really wanted to. I use a black ABS plastic burrow (covered with rock and crushed coral), so he doesn't dig or bang on the glass.

my peacock is very smart, when she cant go any deeper, she leave a thin layer of sand on the bottom and then slowly wedges rock pieces in the gap in the LR in her tank to slowly "jack" up the rock to make her burrow bigger and then on the outside adds rubble to her burrow to make it darker, its all natural and is completely black

Thanks for all the info. After reading everyone's advise I think that if I don't go acrylic tank and do get the 30g cube, I will cover the bottom pane with an acrylic sheet. Also, I will cover all corners up 1-2" with acrylic pieces as well. The sandbed will be a good 4-5" so the side pieces will be covered.
