Here watching football with my family, and some how my little cousin threw a pencil in my sump, it was in there for no more then 10 mins. Is lead toxic to fish or coral. I'm am concern about my system.

Lead is toxic to fish and corals as well as you and your cousin. But I doubt you would be able to buy a lead pencil. Most likely it is wood and graphite.

I'd say your fine, it's actually graphite in pencils not lead. If your that worried and wanna be proactive throw some carbon in.

Lol, thanks guys. My cousin's parents felt bad because they saw how fast I reacted, and paranoid I was. They know how dedicated I am with my tank.

Well except for the next family get together! [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

A quality lock on the cabinet doors goes along way when children are involved with saltwater tanks... Really any fish tank for safety of the children and tank inhabitants

PANIC!!! YOU SHOULD TEAR DOWN THE TANK IMMEDIATELY IF NOT SOONER!!!

Or not.

If a pencil is the worst thing to end up in your tank it's a good day. Take it out, dry it off, and put it back in the junk drawer where it belongs.

Feed the kid to the fish.(j/k?)

On second thought, don't do that - the child is certainly worse for the tank than the pencil.

Pencils do not contain lead. The black substance is graphite, which does not dissolve readily. The rest is wood. The eraser is some sort of plastic or rubber, and the wrap is probably steel or aluminum, neither of which is a problem. The paint, whatever it is, is not lead-containing.

Years ago my nephew dumped an entire gallon of milk into my little 30-gallon tank. It was so long ago that I don't remember what happened to my tank but I was really upset with my nephew.
