finally got one of it closed up to show its branching (many people try to tell me its a wall hammer).

ive also since hidden all but the white powercord coming from the halide. (which i will swap out to a black one... maybe)

haha yeah people don't know how much of a contact hobby this is..We are people that like to keep poisonous creatures in glass boxes, filled with salt water and like to through high voltage into the mix

haha the list could go on and on.

-ive cut myself on glass.
-gotten splinters from tube worm shells.
-lacerated my finger fragging zoos
-burned myself on halides
-electrocuted myself
-gotten saltwater in eye (along with whatever else is in the water)
-smashed head on stand while working in sump
-smashed finger with hammer while doing DIY work for stand, light etc (in the past)
-superglue everywhere... including in my mouth. (i was stupidly trying to pull a cap off the end of the IC-gel tube... when all of a sudden i not only realized there was superglue in my mouth... but the cap was never even on the end of the tube.
-oh and i think this one takes the win. splashed water carrying bucket during waterchange to the bathroom toilet (yes water goes down toilet). spilled it. slipped. ended up falling down a medium flight of stairs.

i forgot about this one.

cell phone pic. only powerbrites on. (i cant get over how much powerbrites mess cell phone pics up.

pretty lame at the moment. after i get live rock and corals in there... it should look more presentable.

Nah, it's gonna be sweet!

By the by, I see that you're in the lead for nano of the month!!!!!!!

i was... dunno if i still am... oh well that tank was weak sauce. this new tank will def outdo the old tank!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH YEAH.

btw thanks for the compliment on the new tank cully. i was pretty demoralized when i realized how empty it looks.
oh and YGPM

and i def need 2 more powerbrite strips.

the LED's get totally drowned out by the halides. the only thing the LEDs do is enhance the color of the corals.

when the halide is off... there is quite a shadow on both sides of the tank. (led coverage isnt so good... i definitely need to get 2 more strips for the other two sides of the luminarc).

Growth shot:

this has got to be the slowest growing coral ive ever been faced with.

Great to see that it is a branching hammer. Now feed the crap out of it so we can all get a piece! :spin1:

Nice looking blue hydno. I've had mine for 6 weeks. I keep mine under a decent amount of flow and try to give it reef chili a couple of times a week and it's gotten noticeably bigger in that time. But I wouldn't call it a fast grower by any means.

thanks!
I am very happy to say it came right from one of my favorite LFS' :)

On a similar note... i dont have a pic, but its starting to put out little baby heads AROUND (there are about 3-5 of these baby heads) the bottom flesh area... at what point can these baby heads be fragged off?

obviously its closed up for the pic... but here

you can see (circled) where one of the satellite heads is.

maybe i should feed mine... YEAH! sounds like a plan!

My branching hammer has gotten large due to full sized heads splitting. I've had several of those small heads grow around the base, but in the past 2+ years that I've had it, I've never had one grow large enough to frag off.

hey, that sump looks familiar. How did it work out for you?

oh thank you so much for the sump. works great... unless i find a leak when i get home. (there wasnt one when i leak tested). but the height of the baffles is perfect for the skimmer im running. AND luckly there is a lot of error room to prevent power outage flood.

now to make sure the halides dont burn everything in my tank.

going from 2 - 24inch t5s, to a 250 halide is a bit much.

do you think hanging the light 24inches above the surface, and running it at 4 hours is too much? (its a radium 20k)

lastly, here is a sketchup of the ultimate plan.

i think im going to sacrifice the lookdown aspect of the tank.
*just representational**inspired by TRS tonga structure in the 180 and another hobbyists tank i saw a while ago*

that orange blob is the hammer btw lol.

i think i am going to go SPS dominated here... i got to thinking, all LPS would look pretty unnatural, etc.
about 10-15 acro/monti/pocci/stylo colonies should fill this tank nicely without ruining the ultra open look.

if anyone will have any ORA/nice looking unnamed acros around xmas time, LMK. (same with montis)

anyway, the next question is... what happens to SPS in a lower flow setting? the flow in my 30br is about 700gph total... i know this is less than ideal, but for an open type tank... what do all you sps experts feel would be decent flow? (aka how many times turnover rate per hour?)

i tried cutting off a few of those baby heads and gluing them onto rubble and they took now i have a buch that are full size from those little baby heads

did you immediately cut them off? or did you wait for the flesh to grow past the baby heads revealing skeleton underneath?
