I gotta believe that as you stated, in a year or two it's gonna look amazing! But then again, I'm a little confused. I understand we shouldn't stock too quickly, but then in the same breath, you want to load up on many zoos and encrusting montis right away. I'm a supporter Dan. I know it takes time to do it right. I know I've also seen a trend towards artsy looking, un-natural looking showpieces thrown together strictly for the WOW effect. Either way, as stated earlier, to each his own. I may not always agree, but I do respect.
I respect your honesty.
Indeed i would like to get zoos stocked up asap. however when i say stocked.. im talking small frags (2-4 polyps) of about 7-10 morphs. so it really shouldnt affect the bioload that much. as for montis... same deal. small frags.
What i meant by stocking too fast, are the people that load full colonies into their tanks to get a WOW effect immediately.... only to have them all crash later.
In the end, my tank will most likely lose a lot of its bonsai look, due to corals filling in many of the gaps. however, after seeing natural reefs in the atlantic, and watching videos of pacific reefs... many of the structures are free standing, and have many overhangs etc. I have never seen a natural reef look like one solid wall or mound... or well i have... but there are still many overhangs, caves etc (it isnt just a solid lump or a brick wall).
overall i strive to achieve something that is visually stimulating to the eye, as well as keeping the more natural look (dont count the hammer coral... it has been moved into the rockwork and looks 100x better).
I also will have a bare tank for a very long time. I HATE the look when people load frags only millemeters apart from eachother. I will start out with frags about 5-7 inches from eachother give or take, and let them grow into eachother.
As for the sandbed, there will hopefully be rics near the base of the rock structure on the right of my tank (the more bonsai one). however, I hope to keep most of the sandbed free and clear to give the illusion of space. I want the tank to appear larger than it really is.
I apologize for any typos... typed this fast so i wouldnt miss any valuable video game time
