Thanks to all the hobbyists who helped out :)

Dan- Refresh my memory (and laziness that prevents me from reading through the thread):

Any fish planned for this bad boy?

I love it, A+ on the aquascaping. one small criticism - your hammer looks unnatural sticking out of the sand like that. it needs to go on a rock!

I havn't yet thought of any fish. I still have to get an invert CUC and possibly a yellow tang for the tank. many will hate on it, but i think it can be done. (it would be the only fish)

thanks!

hammer has been mounted to the rockwork. it was in the sand because i couldnt find a good spot for it.... but its not an issue anymore :)

I must be in one of those brutally honest moods tonight. I realize, to each his own, and I don't want to be thought of as a hater, but... this trend towards minimalist, barren looking pieces stuck in the middle of a desert looking "scape" is not the least bit appealing to me. With that, I'll shut up for the night.

Great look..I wish I could set up a sleek look like that..I get rock happy, once I get started I end up with Mount Everest lol..

BTW I don't know why,but I got a chuckle out of the pic with the drawn acro's :)

I'm sorry you feel this way.

The tank is only 2.5 months old. If it was fully stocked, which it isnt even close, I would be labeled retarded... dumb... etc. I'd rather prevent tank crashes from stocking too fast.

Perhaps you should wait and see what the tank will look like after it matures in 1 or 2 years from now... before you pass negative judgment.

Dan-O, you know I was just kidding!!! After all, I did lead the charge on your first bid for NTOTM didn't I. I'm sorry if my joke brought the noise :hmm2:

Cully too funny man :) haha!

I gotta believe that as you stated, in a year or two it's gonna look amazing! But then again, I'm a little confused. I understand we shouldn't stock too quickly, but then in the same breath, you want to load up on many zoos and encrusting montis right away. I'm a supporter Dan. I know it takes time to do it right. I know I've also seen a trend towards artsy looking, un-natural looking showpieces thrown together strictly for the WOW effect. Either way, as stated earlier, to each his own. I may not always agree, but I do respect.

Looking nice Dan. So wide open. It will be pretty sweet if after a few years you have some nice size acro colonies filling that all in. Will you be leaving the sandbed wide open generally?

I respect your honesty.

Indeed i would like to get zoos stocked up asap. however when i say stocked.. im talking small frags (2-4 polyps) of about 7-10 morphs. so it really shouldnt affect the bioload that much. as for montis... same deal. small frags.

What i meant by stocking too fast, are the people that load full colonies into their tanks to get a WOW effect immediately.... only to have them all crash later.

In the end, my tank will most likely lose a lot of its bonsai look, due to corals filling in many of the gaps. however, after seeing natural reefs in the atlantic, and watching videos of pacific reefs... many of the structures are free standing, and have many overhangs etc. I have never seen a natural reef look like one solid wall or mound... or well i have... but there are still many overhangs, caves etc (it isnt just a solid lump or a brick wall).

overall i strive to achieve something that is visually stimulating to the eye, as well as keeping the more natural look (dont count the hammer coral... it has been moved into the rockwork and looks 100x better).

I also will have a bare tank for a very long time. I HATE the look when people load frags only millemeters apart from eachother. I will start out with frags about 5-7 inches from eachother give or take, and let them grow into eachother.

As for the sandbed, there will hopefully be rics near the base of the rock structure on the right of my tank (the more bonsai one). however, I hope to keep most of the sandbed free and clear to give the illusion of space. I want the tank to appear larger than it really is.

I apologize for any typos... typed this fast so i wouldnt miss any valuable video game time :)

Dan, hows that torch doing? I don't see it in any of the pics?

Hey Tad,

I pretty much started over with this tank. Torches were just too much of a pain to get the flow right... etc etc etc etc plus because my tank isnt a nice large one like the one at the museum, I didnt want to deal with coral warfare. . . or well torch annihilation.

I am glad to see both the todds torch and the TRS torch are (or were when i saw the pics) doing quite well! I'm going to have to check the tank out again very soon :)
