Peninsular 280 bar build

Thanks i have not been very good with the updates but have been trying to figure out the exact specs so i can order the tank. Here is the latest design if i go with the glasscages tank. It will have 2 x 1.5" drains and a 2" safety drain set up as the herbie system.

I am also checking with marineland on a quote designed the same but an extra 2" high and they do not want to do the 2" bulkheads so i would probably just go with 4 x 1.5" bulkheads.

I have 320lb of sand that i ordered along with the 6 buckets of salt figured i should order extra. I have 2 300w heaters which i will have to see if that is enough. I have also gotten 5 4" fans that push 67cfm a piece for the canopy and stand.

I will no longer be going with granite bar or formica. I am going to using 12" tile instead should save on costs over granite but look better than formica.

I also picked up a friends Reeflo Orca 200 that should do for now and i will upgrade it to the pro kit with needle wheel when i start getting it full.

I also picked up 225lb of base rock from reefcleaners great rock and i was able to pick it up so save a ton of $. The one large rock in the top left is 46lb and is about 20x20x6".

Still completely lost on my lighting setup between 3x250 12k reeflux in lumenbright mini wides or the t-5's I mentioned at the beginning.

All thoughts are welcome.

Ok sorry for the delay on further updates i was waiting to hear back from marineland rep and never did so i ordered my 280g 72x36x25 from glasscages today here is the final layout.

The tank should be here January 30th that should give me enough time to get the stand put together.

I will hold off on buying any additional equipment at the moment as i am in the process of looking for a new job as restaurant construction has not been doing so well. So hopefully a new job pans out and this build does not turn into a year long fiasco.

The tankwill have 12" tiles around it as the bar top, i am planning on using 4 x 4x8x3/4" plywood for the stand top, it will be cut in place to 7'x5'. I will place 2 of the pieces of plywood the longways over the stand and then 2 pieces glued and screwed down to the first 2 in the opposite direction. This should give me a sturdy ledge of 1.5" thick for the tile base and me to stand/kneel on for tank maintenance.

Thanks guys, i have been working most of the morning on trying to finalize a rock structure. I will get some pics up and see what everyone thinks.

Here is where i am at for a fish list at the moment let me know what you think.

Transfer from old tank
2 x tank raised false percula
1 x tank raised Bangaii Cardinal
1 x red firefish
1 x 6 line wrasse

New Tang fish definite's
1 x Convict Tang
1 x Atlantic blue tang
1 x Regal Tang
These are others are possibilities but don't want to overdo it.
1 x Mimic Tang
1 x Purple Tang
1 x Yellow tang

Angels
2-3 Chrubs
1 x flame
1 x Potters
1 x coral beauty
Maybe others but we will see once i start stocking

The rest
Pair green mandarins eventually
pair leopard wrasses

Those are pretty much the definite's that i want per current thinking but will re-evaluate down the road.

Here is the rock layout. Almost all of the pieces are ziptied together to prevent rock slides. I tried to encorporate some good overhangs but most of my rock is round. What you see here is probably about 190lb's. Most of the live rock from my current tank will go into the sump unless corals are attached. So i will have about 65lb of rock in the sump with the live rock from current tank and left over dry rock.

I tried my hardest to follow the golden rule that i read over on Ed Reef's thread, but if any of the excellent aquascapers have any ideas let me know. Most of the pics are very deceiving i am not sure how to correct that till there all in the tank.

Looks great Jason... love the back and end view...for the front view, maybe move the 2nd rock from left side slightly inwards to give you a little more sand space as you're planning a mixed reef and you will be thankful for those extra sand space :)

Also in order to get the 5:3 ratio, try to move the 1st 3 pieces of rocks closer together to give it more space between the right side rock.

Just my 2cent :)

Thanks Ed i moved the rocks a little bit i think i am going to have to get some more advice once i get them in the tank where all the depth can be seen. When you speak of the first 3 rocks is that from the front view? If so your talking about the large rock the middle stack and then the single rock on the sand bed?
Thanks for the help Ed.

Ha nice, your doing pretty much what im going to do in about 2 weeks aside from the bar part. Cant wait to see it.

and BTW is your garage carpeted?

Thanks yea i just had to have a peninsular tank i always feel like I am missing out on the action when you can't see all sides.

Yea the garage just has a couple rolls of loose carpet in it not laid down or anything.

Do you have a build thread for your tank i am always trying to find more info on this size peninsular tank.

Jason

ah ok, I couldnt for the life of me figure out why someone would carpet the garage!

na no build yet, I close on the house next week, and then the tank gets ordered so it will still be a few weeks. Im just accumulating equipment right now.

well and wondering how to fit the 275g storage tank through the door to get it into the fish room....

Yea i worked at a carpet warehouse that is where i got the extra carpet. Although my parents have there garage carpeted.

What kind of tank are you getting?

Thanks Sandy although i won't take much credit for it as I got a lot of help from Ed Reef and his critique. Unfortunately i had to unzip tie one of the structures so i could fit all the rock into 2 45g trashcans for soaking.

How did you end up like your glasscages tank? I kept waiting on a price for one of the marineland tanks and never heard back so i went ahead and ordered the glasscages but now people keep saying i made a mistake. :|

Jason

Well this update is long over due but things have been pretty slow since money has been tight.

I picked up the tank end of January everything looked good and i just got the stand up last weekend and i am waiting to get some friends over to get the tank up on the stand i will get some pics up of the stand shortly.

I will probably have the tank up and running before i get my ATI Powermodule b/c those are still ridiculously expensive.

Well here is a pic of the tank sitting in its temporary location in my parents trailer at there house.

Here are a couple pics of the stand with the first coat of interior paint done.

<a href="http://s338.photobucket.com/albums/n433/jaswj17/?action=view&current=3.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n433/jaswj17/3.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

<a href="http://s338.photobucket.com/albums/n433/jaswj17/?action=view&current=2.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n433/jaswj17/2.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

That is pretty close to its final resting place need to get the trim on and finished painting the plan is to have it on the stand May 9th.

I plan on having the salt water storage and top off water out on the porch.

My solana is begging for this thing to get done as it is overflowing with coral. Here is an updated pick.

Thanks, it has been trying at times wondering if I would ever get started.

Yea I loved my R1 but i just recently traded it in for a new blue and white Suzuki M109r so the wife could ride. Wish i could have kept both but then the tank never would have gone up. That and the new puppy have been taking some of my tank funds away.
