Hey guys i acquired this clown yesterday.. The invoice printed stated it as a black percula, is a black percula an onyx clown? and it seems to be bothering my goniopora which seems irritated... Also will the missing third bar stay that way? i kinda love it with the missing third bar :spin1: or will the third bar develop with age?

How big is it? Percs can take a very long time to fill in their thrird bar. From the pic it seems to have the body and head shape of a juvi +/- 3/4". Totally a guess, but if it's small like that, then the 3rd bar will likely grow in within the next few months. If it's older like 1.25" then there's a good chance it won't fill in. Beautiful fish though either way!!

As far as what it is...it's a percula. Onxy is a name coined by a breeder and is now often used to describe just about any perc with lots of black(melanistic). I keep hearing black percula, but as far as I know, that term doesn't refer to any specific genetic lineage. At your percs age which I'm still assuming is very young, maybe 6 months, It has VERY nice coloration, and is definately a beautiful specimen. Also if it is a juvi, that black will likely continue to fill in and become even more pronounced.

which means it may or may not get the third bar? :worried2: i prefer it this way :hmm1:but its ok we'll let nature do its thing and will update here

He probably will get his tail stripe. It can take over a year sometimes for Percs to develop one. He looks otherwise normal so I doubt he won't get it.

Percs can easily pair with ocellaris. They are a little more aggressive than ocellaris, but not overly so. These two species easily pair up and mate.

All joking aside, I have a pair that is as Zeeter described. They pic on each other from time to time, but with extra feedings I have been doing to increase tank nutrient levels, they have been pretty peaceful.
