Percula won't pair

I have had a pair of perculas together for about 9 months now. They survived a tank crash in june, and have been in a temporary tank with a starry blenny and green chromis. The larger clown almost appears to be bonded to the chromis, they sleep next to each other and are constantly togrther. The smaller clown is off by himself in the rest of the tank. They do not fight, they mainly just do their own thing. When I first introduced the smaller one there was a lot of chasing, but not snymore. I wasn't too worried about it but I mean it's been 9 months. Any input is appreciated

I would get a replacement for your smaller one. Get a 1" to make sure it will become male. While rare, not pairing can happen, all you can do is get a different mate for the larger one. Or see if you can trade the two of them for a bonded or mated pair.

At this point I don't want to replace one, I am pretty attached to both of them. After the crash last summer, these are the remaining survivors. They have been moved quite a few times. And they are tough little dudes. Since they aren't fighting, I guess I will just wait and see what happens once they get into the 90 gallon

Should I add more chromis to the display when it gets set up? The one I have was bonded to another chromis that died, at which point he decided to love the female clown.

If they haven't killed each other by now they should be fine. If the Chromis is into the love triangle you can remove it.

The chromis was my first fish, I can't get rid of him. I just don't have it in me. They have been through so much together hahaha. I don't really plan on raising any fry if the clowns were to have any anyways so that isn't really important.

I wouldn't change a thing unless you are looking to breed them, if you are you may have to make a difficult decision.

If I decide to breed them in a few years then I will see what the behavior is then. Once I get the 90 up and running for awhile and all the parameters stable, I may try to add an anemone for them. I also plan on putting in some
Softies so they may host the clowns. Would that help them bond?

They need something where they both want to be.
I would add a ceramic flowerpot. An anemone would even be better.
