Perry's 120 Gallon Reef

RMF Acid Trip Milli,
I was leaning on 1 being SSC, it was part of a wild aussie shipment that came into the LFS recently, just a frag though...

Matt,
5 came in on an aussie shipment, haven't quite seen those colors on each other before, so I knew this one will be a gem one day. Yes that is the PL good eye, not too old school for me, it is still a favorite, lol.

I still ADORE the Acid Trip!! It would have to be one of the coolest milli's I've seen! Clours are gorgeous Perry :)

Perry, assuming your fully into the salt, are you dosing their products to get the trace elements as well. The salt looks to be very basic when it comes to what's in it. Should one be using the whole program to ensure all trace etc are being introduced. I see there is allot more in their 1,2, and 3 Ca, Alk, and Mg, plus the mineral salts and component strong products.

Thanks Dom! I wish the little guy would grow, one of the slowest ever, but not anchored down yet, and millis tend to want to be secure before throwing branches, but cannot wait to see this coral as a colony :)

Nice Perry frags are encrusted nicely and colors looked great

Thanks Dan,
These are some of the ones that I feel are either taking off, or close to taking off :) I have a few more that I will document later on. Thanks for checking in, hope your tank is well :)

Wow Perry, colors are looking fantastic.

Thanks Mark,
I am pretty satisfied with colors, the transition is going well, I can see different hues in certain corals that simply were not there before, so I know the system is working. My focus to to keep things as well maintained as I can, keeping the sump clean, floor of the tank clean, back of the glass clean, coraline scraped, you know the OCD basics, lol...

Tweaked, using Salifert Hard Trace, BW Boron, K, and I for supplementation on a weekly basis right now. I am also using 2 part by Seachem Reef Fusion, and ESV Mag. They all have to be worked out before I go to the trace and element side. I really like my 2 part system, so on the fence about whether or not to change this and maybe us their trace formulas down the road....hmmmm..... I am using the probiotic reef salt, fwiw...

Micro E and the Mineral salts look to be a great way to add those back in. Are you using those?

Not yet, answer above on the trace and minerals... I need to do more reading on the component system, originally going to go that route, but I may not, either way we have the component system at the LFS, so I will read them bottles a bit better, I want to have a clear understanding of them before I convert.

Bubblegum Milli I think :)

Beautiful corals.

Every time I look at your scape, it is a two mountains with colorful trees. Now with your frag rack, its like a colorful cloud moving in. Btw is it a rack or your power heads?

Hey thanks Bernie, I love it sticks on mountains :) The trees are continuing to color up, lol... No frag racks in the tank right now, hopefully be able to keep them out with the frag tank next door, but do have some on the floor growing...

Quick side shot...

Update on AF System:

2/12 changed out 1 cup phos minus and 2 cups carbon, they both run in a reactor together, therefore I change them out together, this will be on schedule for changing out every 4 weeks. No signs of irratation, no signs of polyps shutting down, no signs of tissue necrosis, everything looked great.

2/17 changed out 3 cups zeolites, did not use any seeded zeolites, they were freshly changed out. There have been no signs of any corals being upset or lack of polyp extension or necrosis. The tank is crystal clear.

Observations:
I have been experiencing a bit of green slime, I am not 100% sure the root cause, and it is not unsightly as red cyano slime is, but nevertheless, the rock still seems to be processing laden nutrients, so siphoning during water changes, and using a turkey baster to blast settling areas of detritus from rock is the approach that I will continue. I am using coral b daily now at 6 drops. I have not seen any signs of this dosing having any adverse effects. I plan to increase frequency and volume of water changes until this slime subsides. The salt mixes very fast, and does not seem to cause any problems when changed out, the polyps on the sps generally stay expanded during the change out. As with anyone's system, we all seem to have a few corals that don't want to take proper color, or seem dull, faded, or browned. I can attest to each coral in the tank looking super healthy, all show 24 hour PE, and only 1 coral that is being stubborn, but has obvious growth tips, so I am thinking in a matter of time it too will do it's thing as far as color goes. By far of all the ULNS I have run, this seems to be the easiest to understand and control, I really love the fact that you can run your tank and enhance with AF, or run the full probiotic system, it is really a straight forward system, and the room or margin for forgiveness seems to be far superior to any method employed thus far. I do not see any ill effects, from any of the products, none at all, yes I am still skeptical to a degree, but after 6 weeks in, I can really see drastic color shifts... The glass swiping is needed now at about every 4-5 days now, I tend to do this more like every 2 days, but is not twice per day like indicated shortly after introducing coral e, a, b, and v.

Great update, I'm finding much of the same with my usage, other than I'm not using the phosphate minus. Corals are growing and coloring up significantly since switching over in December for me:)

Perry, can you let us know how your implementing the zeolites? I just read all three could be run together in a reactor (mind blown). I always thought zeo had to be shaken every day etc. Thanks for the updates. I am now over to their trace and metals via the Components A,B, and C. Also seeing results already from the program.

Perry what an update man. Same thing here as Matt says. Since starting AF, everything looks way better than before .Alsoas you say, this ULNS is pretty much fool-proof

Sounds good Perry getting ready to start AF soon on my tank.:)

Awesome, are you going probiotic fully or hybrid? You will find that, for the most part, each of their products does what is says it will do. If you have any questions or need any assistance, feel free to message me:)

Matt, the phos minus is really gentle, btw... If you feel you are good at keeping phosphates low and in check, I can see how it is not needed. I have rock that has nutrients bound, evidenced by the last bit of green cyano, not overly concerned, and it seems to be declining, but until I am free and clear, I will likely continue it's use. Being a bit behind you is and has been a great thing, I have gained confidence and knowledge through your experiences, and wish to simply pass that along, in spirit of our hobby. Thanks again for being my sort of "AF Big Brother" over the last 6+ weeks since implementation! With a Rebel Yell, we cry more more more!!! Now let's catch up to the dark force already, I think I will hang in the shadows until I have something to rival Biggles last side shot, those colors while beautiful to see, sparked a fire inside, lol...

Tweaked,
My first round of zeolites I topped off with 2 cups of carbon, I did not see any ill effects, and even when I decided to disturb the zeolites. I did have phos minus in a sock running passive. I decided to put carbon and phos minus in the same reactor, and plan to change same date each 4 weeks. I do dial down the flow for the first 24 hours, then ramp up every day until back to normal flow rate. As far as zeolites go, you can run all these together, I think that is how Debora does it. In this setup, you would likely just run in a regular reactor. After giving this thought, and seeing how Matt is pulsing the media daily, I decided to run in my zeo reactor only zeolites. I am pulsing daily too at this point, missing a day or two sometimes, but again, nothing I can see that helps or hurts. I will be changing the zeolites every 6 weeks, with fresh zeolites, so I feel it can go a bit further. Glad everything is working so far, if you need any assistance or guidance on this, let me know, it is pretty much self explanatory though, another reason I like the AF system :)

Hey no problem,
That is what we are here for, the goal is to have a beautiful tank, while there are SO many ways to have success, I am happy I made the investment and decision to move forward. I have at least a year supply backed up on most stuff, I did this so I can see in a year how much success I have encountered or not, I will let this upcoming December be my indicator. Glad the system is already showing you change, you will see that it is hard to keep up changes that unfold before your very eyes :)

Yes, one last question.. If I did run all three in a reactor, is there a set pattern? Gfo/Zeo/Carbon on top. Do I sandwich with the top filter pad so there is no tumble? Or carbon on bottom so I can tumble the top medias?

Thanks again Perry
