Perry's 120 Gallon Reef

Yes, one last question.. If I did run all three in a reactor, is there a set pattern? Gfo/Zeo/Carbon on top. Do I sandwich with the top filter pad so there is no tumble? Or carbon on bottom so I can tumble the top medias?

Thanks again Perry

Personally I would not tumble phos minus, and do not know exactly which is stacked in which method, but if I did it, I would go zeolites-carbon-phos minus, only due to the size of the media, I would think the zeolites will get more flow, but knock it down, then the coarse grade carbon would do the same, with finally the lighter media on top, if it tumbles too much, then the flow would be too much. I would set the flow rate to similar requirements such as zeovits flow rate, just my guess though. I think this is how Matt originally set his flow rate, I sort of mimicked that myself.

Time to update the new page with some new pics, from above.... :)

WOW......WOW and WOW !!!!!

Daniel

Thank You Daniel, glad it Wowed you, lol....
Kind Regards Pal,
Perry

I can see the changes happening

Thanks Tweaked, things are changing, sometimes it seems too much to keep track of, not a bad thing I guess :)

Awesome, as expected. :D

Very kind of you to say Mark, side note, that RR is really getting close to old school pics of the original FF RR... like you mentioned of course...lol....

Perry, just awesome! Where are your phosphate values at?

Matt, I really only test weekly for nutrients, I use the Hanna Handheld, it always reports back to me 0.00
Side note: NO3 is steady coming in at 0.2ppm using Salifert.

Gorgeous colors Perry! You're making me want to make the switch!

Thanks Tim, I really appreciate the kind words man, the switch is easy, and is very cost effective, so when you are ready, there are a few of us around here to lend a helping hand :)

Wow Perry , that just amazing dude. What is that second to last acro.

Thanks Man,
That is just a run of the mill Red Planet my friend :)

way to go...amazing! cant wait to try AF myself out

Thanks Rodney, I am also excited to see you heading this direction, I know your amazing reef will only become well....more amazing!!!

Nice Perry!!
Really nice!!
Still very rich colors.
Are you using the full dose of coral E?

Thanks Matt,
The colors still have rich saturation, but I am only using 6 drops of Coral E every other day, I have not really thought to up or down the dosage, but maybe I will drop a couple extra ones in the tank and see what happens, lol... Thanks for looking over things, I appreciate your insight!

Looking great Perry, colors are awesome and richly saturated. I love that green and pink stunner, looks like extreme SSC pigments on a different acro species. :)

Perry, I'm asking around about the coral E because it's supposed to lighten corals with the copper that is in it.
I'm not surprised that your are not using a full dose.. Your corals still look nice and rich..
That pastel look is a matter personal taste, obviously.. I find it is conducive to bringing out yellow but softens reds..

Andrew,
Thank you so much for the compliment :) If you are talking about the 2nd to last pic, that is a red planet, that is where it is going in current conditions, it has switched colors a few times on me, at this point, much of the green is being overshadowed by the intense redish pink....

Matt,
I will post up a few pics of another piece that has really morphed with the use of E, I believe it to be an ice tort, it has changed drastically, let me see if I can dig up those pics :) As far as E goes, I do believe that it will help, with the ULNS to ultimately take you to more pastel appearance, but that is the thing with AF, it is a gently approach to running probiotic system. I see corals quickly coloring to what they should, while I see other morphing outside of their typical lineage. For example, my RP, in the last set of pics has really done some weird coloring. While it is absolutely stunning, I really don't think it resembles the RP anymore. In fact, Andrew made a comment, I replied back with it just being a RP, so if it slipped past the coloring whisperer Biggles, I believe that it has taken on a new color variation. Remember, nothing else in my tank has really changed, other than I re-scaped and went BB, but the same corals, in the same tank, under the same lights, these colors with only 3 fish, running ULNS, I still cannot believe I do not have washed colors, this is with .2ppm NO3 and 0.00 PO4. This is the real reason why I think AF works, other systems running such low nutrients with this low of a bioload, I would be lucky to have vibrant colors. I really want to have more pastel color, so what I am doing is bumping to 8 drops every other day. I will update the thread if I see any corals changing. I hope I covered your question bro, hope all is well, and don't freeze, up there... This time of year in FL is my favorite, right on the brink of Spring, the weather is amazing.... Oh yeah, today they have that popular race going on, I won't dare get out on the roads today, Daytona only 16 miles away, and it is going to be a frickin zoo!

Update:

Huge news for me, I added 5 female lyretails to the tank yesterday, and this will be my new direction. The fish are out and eating, so feeling pretty good about that. My new direction will be an anthias inspired display. I will also add a powder brown tang at some point, and maybe a couple dwarf angels. Here is my current and rather dismal fish list:
Yellow tang
Blue/green chromis
True Perc female
female lyretail anthias-5

Only 8 fish, but stay tuned, I plan on adding at least 20 more anthias :)

That's going to be sweet! I'm intending to have lots of schooling fish so Anthias will play a large part. I have 5 now, but I'd like to get some more Resplendent and some Ignitus as well:)

@ Matt, Canada Matt, regarding E and it's effects. Here are some that have that sort of pasteling type look, where you can see lightening of the tissue. I also notice that the tips of the corals have a defined kind or ring as the base color transitions to the tips. Not all the corals are pasteling though, some are holding a rich vibrant color, like my chips acro, not pictured here, but in previous round of pics. Meanwhile, my RR has really gotten light, with electric red tips. Just some observations :)

thanks, Perry.
It's very interesting how some corals darken and some lighten.
very cool watching the transition..

every summer, we get the Grand Prix here. Over the course of 4 days, the city fills up with absurdly rich europeans and and crazy partiers.
You can hear the cars racing about 5 miles away from the track and the city probably makes about a cabillion dollars that weekend... but you can't go downtown or you'll never get back out!
We try to go out of town that weekend..

Perry things are looking rich and gorgeous as usual :inlove: I have to say you're definitely a big inspiration to me with the quality of your tank :)

Sounds like an amazing plan and it's even better timing because I can watch your tank progress with a new and intense anthias load in preparation for potentially doing the same in my end of the world!! ;) Can't wait to see and hear how they go!
