Perry's 120 Gallon Reef

This is the crap that grows on my sand. I think it might be brown cyano but not certain. If I disturb the sand at all it gets so much worse. Some times it is gone for a day or two but just comes right back and worse. NO3 reads 4 and PO4 has always read 0.00 on hanna and red sea kits. But I have some gha growing in low flow area. I have gone months without using any phosphate media and still can't get a reading. I'm thinking that the stuff on the sand and the little gha that I have is giving me undetectable readings.

Thoughts?

I got the same thing growing in my tank. Some in the sand bed, and some is some coral die off. Leta just say tank is not doing good right now:(

Jorge,
Sorry to hear of the troubles, message me if I can be of any assistance :)

I did a 10% water change yesterday, and changed out all medias, I was pushing things at 6 weeks. Today, the water was crystal clear, and while the brown dusting was still there, it seems to be less. I also did another sump clean today, removing all equipment, and removing as much detritus as possible, which was about 95%. Filter sock changed, and will likely do another 10% water change tonight. I have been turkey basting rocks, manually cleaning all glass, powerheads, and any areas where there appears to be brown buildup. Tank is looking pretty clean, the sump is super clean, and I now have only the 2 liters of siporax and 2 liters of Life Bio Fil in separate strainer baskets, stacked on one another, still stays well underneath the water in the center chamber of sump with great flow. Here is a FTS today :)

Your tank is just amazing as ever. As my life is hectic as ever now what are the easiest Af products to dose? I have a calcium reactor running so component 123 is out but I would like to supplement the trace minerals. Thanks for any info.

Nice FTS Perry. :)

Thank You Mindy

Along side CA RX, you can use Component ABC+Kalium, this is formulated with 40 or more trace minerals and heavy metals, all in one designed for automated dosing. You can also use separate dosing like Kalium, Iodum, Strontium, Flourine, Iron, and Micro E by the daily dropper. Thanks for the compliments Brandon, hope all is well your way man :)

Looking amazing as always Perry!!! And congrats on the yes!!

Ahh, so you saw on FB, lol... :) Yes I needed to get Cindy the ring on her finger that she deserves for putting up with me, lol.... Thanks again!!! :celeb3:

Hey Perry,
Always a pleasure to review your blog /thread.

I wanted to add to the knowledge base a little bit. I had some of the same experience mentioned above. I ran out of Pro Bio S [I ordered it through LFS but received Bio S instead and did not want to use it]. But I continued to dose NP Pro. I broke out with some brown stuff also. It is mostly in the sump.

I probably should have stopped the NP Pro while not having the Pro Bio S. I dosed for more then a week like this thinking that there must still be some live bacteria that need to eat.

I ordered on line a 50ml bottle of the Pro Bio S and just received it so I am getting back into the routine. Nothing is amiss and the corals look good still. I will syphon up the brown stuff and hopefully it just goes away.

Interestingly, wherever I had a little bit of bubble algae, I now have a lot more bubble algae.

Corals are all looking good and growing. The AF Comp123 clearly appears to have accelerated things a bit.

Thanks again.

Cheers to you, Sir.

Thanks Kevin and Tim!

Well, I go on vacation, stress that, now Hurricane Matt, which appears to be coming right at my area, no generator, so fingers crossed on this one! I have decided to not worry, and accept whatever happens, if I lose my tank, I will be breaking it down and moving it to another area of the house and start all over again :( My biggest concern is where I live has old power lines, and tons of trees, we lose power easy, so any winds above tropical storm will likely result in power outages. Wish me luck :)

Thank You Everyone! I am not sure when the last time will be for an update, my fingers, toes, arms, and legs are all crossed at this point. I have lived here all my life, through Andrew, Charlie, and all the other crazy storms, I have never seen Daytona area in a direct zone of impact, like ever. My thoughts are positive, but I am nervous, even though I am a true Floridan, this storm has serious potential !

Seen it in on the news, looks to be a big one. Words of Obama - you can rebuild but you cannot get back life. Stay safe my friend.

Governor declared temporary conceal and carry for all legal gun owners, so it is getting pretty nuts around here. I live away from the city, in a very small town, fortunately the people here are great neighbors and look out for one-another. So all my guns dusted off, clips loaded, and tons of drinking water. I have a vortech battery back-up on the way, and possibly family coming over with a generator. We have food, beer, and lots of ice packed in the fridge. Candles, batteries, flashlights, and really all we need. We have until around 1pm to get things in and tied down. Then the hurricane part begins!!! Thanks again everyone, I totally appreciate the kind words and well wishes!

Hey Perry, the damage looks pretty bad in Haiti and Cuba.. I hope Matt calms down a bit for you guys.. and I'm complaining about an alk swing..
Good luck!!
I hope you don't need the guns or the battery backup!!
