Pete's 110 build

Fantastic job Pete! Your tank looks awesome. I'd have to say my fav's are the Sunset Monti and the various zoa's. I also read about your apex doing a good job! I hope to do the same thing with my RKL eventually.

it's wonderful that your wife can help you like she does. My hubby isn't quite to that point yet

Just saw your Orange and Purple Gorg.... looking very healthy and beautiful... do you feed your tank?

thanks SJ

my daily feeding routine is:

at ~9:00 in the evening
feed mode on for 15 minutes, (main return, wavemaker and skimer off but circuation pumps are left on.)

1) pellets for the fish, maybe 20 or so

2) cyclopseze, about 2 cubes worth maybe more. The tank is full of circulating cyclopseze; the fish swim around grabbing what they can and the LPS and softies do a pretty good job grabbing most of what floats around, this feeds just about everything and is mostly all consumed in 15 minutes, if not, I'll hit feed mode again.

3) after the cyclopsezez I'll reset of the feed mode a feed cube of mysis and a cube of rotifers. By now the sun corals, dendros & duncans are open and have eaten some cyclopseze but are ready for more. Although I broadcast feed I try to get some in the direction of the LPS. The rotifers are mainly for the gorgs.

in the morning I feed phyto for the sponges and other filter feeders

the sunset is a beautiful coral but if I continue to leave it untrimmed it will take over everything, even zoas succombe to it

I installed the LED bars today, I installed 5/16" all thread stainless rod into the heat sink through some holes I drilled and tapped. This way I can adjust the height of the bar over the water. For now the LED bars are even with other the T5's. Eventually I expect to replace the T5's with more LED's, but for now the T5's will just be on for high noon light intensity for 3 to 5 hours a day.

Here's some picures of the LED light bar mount:

in this picture you can see the end of the all thread rod where it comes through the heat sink.

In this picture you can kind of see how the all thread rod fits between the heat sink fins and is attached to the canopy

another angle - the existing actinic ED light bar is on the far left with individual heat sinks

Your tank looks beautiful Pete. Great photo skills too, what camera are you using?

Thanks Brett
I'm using my Sony HD video camera. I'm very pleased with the closeup results. I'm not so happy wit FTS but that may be more of a user issue then camera. ;)

That undata is fabulous!! Mine had been coming along nicely, color-wise, until I had an alk crash and now I'm waiting for it to come back again (fingers crossed).

I also have a mandarin and have been wanting a tube 'nem; no troubles I take it? I've been reluctant as they have a mixed reputation as far as snagging fish goes.

Beautiful tank overall!

thanks - and hope the Undata come back full force, sometimes they take time but if and when they come back some monteporas seem to do better after goingt through a hard time

so far no issues with the tube nem and I have a new small mandarin in the tank. I read up on them and got mixed results about them with small fish. The pet store said the ones they had didnt sting that bad sand never had any issues so I decidedd to give one a try

Feeding time for the meat loving corals
I already fed cyclopeze and mysis, now for rotifers

Nice! Your corals are beautiful.
Thanks FishTeen :)

Gotta get me one of those cameras. Pete, what lights are you using during that video?
Thanks Brett, all LED's were on, no T5's. I need to chang eout my T%'s so doing some research. I just want to run the 4 T5's for about 4-5 hours a day, kind of a high noon thing. I have a couple UV Aqua Suns that I may supliment with two KZ Fiji Purples, but they cost a bit more

How many times pr. week do you feed them?

I feed everyday
-at about 8:30 I'll feed pellets
- about 8:45 I feed cyclopeze with the return pump off for 15 minutes and if everthing is not eaten I'll reset the feed mode for another 15
- usually right after the cyclopeze I'll feed a cube of mysis and a cube of rotifers. the sun corals & dendros respond pretty well to the cyclopeze so I try to send some mysis in their direction and try to keep the shrimps away long enough for them to get a few

I got some new additions today

first up is a pair of harlequin shrimp - you can see the female on the lower right peeking over the coral
file.php

it wasn't 10 minutes and the female found a nice snack, an asterina star and the male came by but she took off running, not about to share

female afoot

male giving chase
file.php

after running into a few of the other tank mates they got together again
the cleaner shrimp checked them out with their antennae but they didn't appreciate it much when the tip got pinched
file.php

after the male finally gave up on the chase (maybe he found his own meal) the female continued with her meal

another thing I got today was a deep purple tube anemone with a bright green center. The lights were pretty dim in the tank but I wanted to grab a picture any way. I didn't expect the thin green lines and bright dots on the tentacles, I don't think I've ever even seen one like this. I cna't wait to see what it looks like under some more lights
file.php

That tube anemone is the most gorgeous one I have ever seen! I used to have one in my very first 38 gallon tank, but ended up selling it because I was too worried about it eating my fish... I might be rethinking that position now.
