Pete's 110 build

That is an incredible tank, growth and collection, and your photos are mind exploding. What camera and lens do you use? Looking forward to more updates.

Here is something new (at lesat for me)

A couple days ago I noticed one of my cleaner shrimp lost an antenna while it molted, nothing new here. At first I noticed a small redish clear tube where it broke off and over the past two days I've noticed the stub was turing white. Check this out. It appears he is growing an antenna inside the tube and it's all coiled up ready for the next molt.

Woah! It's crazy how they can loose appendages and grow them back during the molt. Never seen as detailed of a shot of the process though. Very cool!

I'll try to get some progress pictures today and maybe tommorw to see if anything intersting happens

In the mean time I captured this lil guy scampering across the Sunset Monte this morning

Seriously, everytime I see your pictures and how great of macro shots you get with a video camera I want to cry! Awesome photos, great tank! let's see some new full tank shots!

My video camera skills for a full tank shot is way less then desirable. At least I haven't seemd to figure it out other then I absolutly have to use a tri-pod.

What I 'd realy like to do is set up a tripod and do a 7am to 12pm time lapse full tank video.

I did add a clip on fan to the sump today. For now it's set to turn on with the T5 lights but I plan on getting another EB8 (power bar) and will have it turn on by APEX when the temperature hits 81.5. The pictures not the best but it's the large white thing in the upper left

I also took one of the Leng Sy frags (about 3" long) and glued it to the side of some live rock deaper in the tank in an area that gets some laminar flow. It will be interesting to see how or if it plates out.

As I was cleaning up after a water change I noticed some water around my Ca reactor. Cleaning it up I must have nudged something and made it worse so I pulled the reactor. It looked like the MJ900 I use for a circulation pump was leaking so I cleaned it up, smeared some plumbers grease on the gasket and put it back together. On inspection I did not see any leaks so I thought I fixed it.

15 or so minutes later there is another small amount of water below the reactor and after closely inspecting the seals I see nothing wrong. What I did find was a small drip coming from the back plate or cover of the pump. I thought this was very unusual and potentialy dangerous so I replaced the pump.

Anyone ever have or hear of a MJ leaking from the back?

The whole ordeal has me thinking about using a different brand recirc pump or maybe getting a larger sump so the Ca Reactor can fit inside it.

I have never seen that but when I've run MJ's I've always run them submerged.

doing some reading on the MJs I've finding out that there have been a few people that used them on Ca reactors and had some erosion problems. I just find it odd that mine was leaking through the body of the pump. Looking at alternate pumps based on price I suspect I will be better off if I just replace the MJ pump every 6-12 months.

I do wish I had space in the sump to keep it submerged and maybe someday down the road I'll upsize the sump but it's not in the plans for right now.

With two days worth of data points, it looks like between adding the fan and tweeking the heater controls a bit my previous 4 degree temperature swings are now going to be under 2 :)

That first day after adding the sump fan I was doing a water change and had all the doors open so it gave me a low reading for the day. I'm thinking I may be able to bring the peak down a little more by adding a ventilation exhaust fan in the hood. Currently I have 3 fans blowing into the hood on the hot end of the T5's but nothing pulling the hot air out.

Wow, I'd say that's a pretty significant difference in temp swing since adding the fan. Definitely a solid degree and a half there. :)

I'm happy with the results, and todays peak was even a little less then yesterdays. Whats odd is, with exception to Acans, my corals all seem to be doing fine dispite the swings. I always thought that swings over 3 degrees were somewhat detrimental to corals, so it will be interesting to see if the Acans do better, or for that mater, if there will be any noticable difference in any of the corals.
