Pete's 110 build

Some acropora don't handle dips well.

Soooo lucky.

Thanks - I'll have to be more careful on my cleaning process. I usually let the corals soak in a super high concentration of interceptor for at least an hour, this really depends on how much time I have but I'll go as long as 3-4 hours. This pretty much eradicates all crustaceans and red bugs. Then I go 15 minutes in ReVive but I tend to use the same water so when mixing it with the corals in the water there are spots with high concentration levels and I think this is what got to the coral.

Hoek's and Abrotanoides always stand out to me so much whenever I browse DD, I love them! I dont know why I never pulled the trigger on a Hoek, but I did by a very nice Abrotanoides once only to have it lose the beautiful red tips and ultimately RTN within a week. I hope yours does much better!

I agree, I've been looking at the same two coral species for a couple years and finally decided to pull the trigger. Sorry about your loss and hope mine makes it through that initial shock from transportation and acclimation and I don't mean just the final tank as these corals go through a lot that we don't have control over the week or two prior to them making it into our systems.

Nice... I'm considering adding a couple of acro frags next month to see how things do, but still not sure. Still some LPS I want to add.

If your not sure yet try a birdsnest, you may even be able to find someone to give you a frag. It's a decent system started sps as they tend to be inexpensive and fairly tolerant of new systems as they are finding their equilibrium.

Two good species that I have are seriatopora guttatus and stylophora. Both are birdnests that have been extremely hardy for me, plus they are pretty.

Yeah was considering something like that or maybe a green bali slimer or something on the cheap end just to get a feel.

Hey Pete, I've read through most all of the 40 pages on here, Just wondering what happened to the mandirins you ysed to have, I didn't notice anything on you getting rid of them, except for the female getting sick. But they didn't seem to appear in your TOTM thread??? can you tell me what they're like in a busyish tank? did you find yours getting harrassed alot? thanks.

Nothing bothered them but I ended up loosing both

At first (as posted) it looked like the female was on the road to recovery, she even grew her fins back, but about a month or so later she came down with the heavy breathing again and died a couple days later. I replaced her with another small female and she fattened up and was doing great for about 2 months then the same thing; heavy breathing, fin rot and death in about 2 days. The male followed a couple weeks later. My only guess was there may have been a parasite like a gill fluke or internal worm that is specific to mandarins as nothing even remotely like it happened to any other fish in the aquarium. :sad2:

Saturday morning I headed to a local fish store having an anniversary sale (if your ever in south Ft Worth, Franks Tanks is well worth the visit). I picked up one of those magnifying portals and a couple browned out mini colonies for $30 a piece. I figured why not as just about everything changes some.

New frags look great. Sorry to hear about the Mandarins too. That's a tough one considering how well you nurtured them. Everything looks crazy good in the feeding video. I like how the two harlequins are standing there like soldiers guarding the reef. :)

Do you feed the frozen Cyclop-eeze (the red stick)? Or is it the freeze dried stuff in the vid?

I feed the frozen stuff, but I also buy it in bulk. It's the same as the red stick but in 8 blocks or 23 lbs total for a bulk buy. I'll usually do a group buy but it last so long I only have to buy it once every couple years.

I've tried the dry stuff and it works pretty well also. I may try going with it again in an auto feeder so I can feed it a couple times a day.

I found this on one of the new corals I picked up - maybe a birdsnest or porites, hard to tell yet

this unknown acro was browning out some when I relocated it under the center brace but it's starting to color up again

these are taken later at night, I'll see about getting a better picture with more light this weekend - and of course the royal blues help bring out the colors
