Pete's 110 build

Wow.. I'm speechless.. Nice tank.

thanks

pete, just want to say i really appreciate you inviting us to see your tank while i was visiting arlington TX. you do have an impressive setup there. I really love to meet other successful reef hobbiest around the US and world and talk tank. Right now I'm trying out a nano with LED's, and once i figure out these LED's i'll probably get something alittle bigger. cheers!

thanks Nick - it was nice meeting you and your wife the other night, and hope you had a great visit to the DFW area. if your in the area again let me know

TLF Kalc reactor running
currently programed to dose 15 seconds every 30 minutes if pH is less then 8.2. In total this will be less then 1/2 gallon a day but I want to monitor the pH before increasing the dose durations

Can you tell the pump you were using when dosing the kalk? The digital timers from Lowe's could not handle the startup of a maxijet 400 when I tried them. I was using it to stir my reactor. I am thinking of trying again with an aqua lifter to does at night a gallon or two. Thanks

the aqualifter is to slow - the specs say it needs 200-300gph to get the sprinkler head to turn but it by the time the water flow goes through all the restrictions built into the system the flow slows to a trickle as you see in the video

I'm using a FountainTech 130, a smaller pump then recommended, that I got from autotopoff.com but I don't think they carry it anymore.

This looks amazing!!

thanks - I still have the green nem in the picture but it keeps moving to the back side of my rockwork - almost like it doesn't like the lighting in the tank. The rose nem is doing great and growing fast where the green one seems to be just hanging in there and won't eat as much.

Thanks Pete. I was wanting to use the aqua lifter on my home built reactor. Did you get the digital timer at one of the box stores, i.e. Lowes or HD?

I am currently using my APEX for the Kalc as I only run less then a minute at a time. A digital timer would work fine for stirring only, but I don't think you can program them for less then a minute. I bought my heavy duty digital timers for lighting online but have seen them at Lowes & HD.

Hey Pete, are you going to MACNA?

sorry I'm just now getting back with you Brett, I was out of the state that weekend

not much to update

here are a couple pictures of the strawberry tabling acro growing into the glass - this is about 4-5 days worth of growth at most
it was just the other night I noticed the coral was close to the glass and the next night it was sending out mesenteric filaments to attack the algea on it. You can still see the filaments in the end view

and from just an hour or so ago, shortly after feeding time - so not sure if it was responding to food and establishing more territory or just the later

Very nice tank. All your corals are thriving.

Thanks - for the most part they are doing okay. The flame angel isn't helping any, as my PE is almost non-existent, and my nodoso is having an issuethat I suspect is due to low flow in the area.

Crazy pictures there, Pete!! Thanks for posting those.
thanks

Very interesting....
thanks

As mentioned above, my Nodoso has not been doing well lately, has anyone seen an algae like this?
I don't know if its attacking the coral or taking over as the coral dies off. It looks like it's on healthy coral though.

and a strawberry tabling acro frag ggrowing up ht side of the glass - guess it's time to sell it

Was the coral that's leaning on the Nodoso stinging it? Hard to say what the algae is but I've had a couple corals in the past get attacked by a similar brown algae. But I presumed, at least with mine, the algae was attacking it since the coral was already compromised.

It’s not up against any corals (picture shows the back end of a hermit)

I am also getting some bubble algae so I checked my RO/DI water; it's past due for a filter change. It's amazing how much difference a few TDS can make to you water quality.
---------------------------

Here’s another coral that was placed on a lower rock shelf and is growing up past the upper rock ledge. To gain support it sent out a branch like the other one shown above, cleared off the spot and is now attaching itself for additional support. These things continue to amaze me; for a dumb thing they seem pretty smart :)
