WOW Pete, that's an incredible catch. Thanks for sharing. Did any of those baby crabs get saved to a different vessel, like your 29g?

no - I didn't see any release, she was just waving them, so it may have been an aeration thing or I just caught her a few minutes early

So, I went back to check again and she was turned sideways

ahaaa, an intruder

she has since marched off the edge heading back toward rock cover. Not sure if I missed the release or she decided to hold off when things are more private.

thanks Hop, I always enjoy checking out the tank late at night, you never know what you'll find

Last night I set the Ca reactor Ph controller to 6.5, this morning the reactor Ph was 6.5 (amazing how that works  ). The effluent DKH was 19.2, and tank Ph 8.00, so it dropped some but not too bad. I honestly haven't checked the tank Ph in the morning for a while so I don't know how much of a drop it is, but I suspect between 0.1 and 0.2

Tony (BigJay) was over last night keeping me honest with the setup and called Marc about the Ph set point. Marc suggested setting the Ph to 6.3 as the CRM needs a lower Ph. So this morning I lowered the set point to 6.3 (imagine that :) ). And yes, Marc was diligently working on the Reefkeeping magazine last night (he also said he was enjoying green sardines and polyp juice ) - thanks Marc.

If you missed the last page you need to go back and look at the pregnant mithrax crab pictures I took last night.

Ca reactor Ph is at 6.45 and holding, I'll have to increase the bubble count to drop it more. Current bubble count is ~2.5 per sec

Tank Ph dropped to 7.97, tank DKh is holding at 9.6 (since last night)

I pulled the skimmer and pump for an cleaning. When pulled, I noticed a bunch of kalc build up on the inside of my sump where it drips against the side, guess I'll be doing some sump cleaning also

That mag 24 is a monster Pete. Frank uses one of those to feed a few dozen of his front display tanks. No wonder your tank is always so clean. I didn't know you could fit a pump that big on a PM bullet 2.

7.97 isn't that bad considering all of the CO2 you've had to add to melt that media. I'm sure the PH will snap back when the lights go on full blast.

It's also possible that you've met alk/ca demand, hopefully we'll know that by tonight/tomorrow. Any change in the behavior of your animals?

Keep us all posted ;) I'll give you a call later.

2.5 bps is fine. 3 bps is what I usually run on my tank, Pete. And the pH will go up later today. You may find that your tank runs 7.9 to 8.1 daily, or perhaps 8.0 to 8.2 daily (like mine).

just checked again

tank Ph = 7.92, DKh = 9.6

Ca reactor Ph = 6.44

I'm also not running the skimmer right now so I'm sure that is causing some if not most of the drop

Watch your second PSI gauge, Pete. That's what usually causes the bubble count to vary. The pH controller will protect the system though, shutting off the CO2 as pre-set.

thanks Marc - the second gage is dead on 20 psi, it's factory set, no adjustments

I stirred up a bunch of gunk in the sump cleaning it out, Ph rose to 8.3 and now my DKh is just over 10. I suspect residual Kalc is the culprit

The Ca reactor bubble count has been steady and the Ph dropped to 6.35. I raised the off setting a tad to 6.4

The skimmer is cleaned but on it's second rinse.

I finished cleaning out the sump, I just about sucked up a bristle worm starting a syphon. That would have been an interesting trip to the hospital.

While I had everything apart in the sump I replaced the reactor hoses with new black ones. I also replaced the brass air valve on my skimmer with a plastic one. It's a thankless job that doesn't make the tank look any better, but at least I'm set for another year.

Pete, it looks really good. I love a clean setup. What is the reactor on the far right, the one with the gray stuff inside?

that would be special phosban

just kidding - it is phosban but has some calcification on the inside of the reactor from dosing 2 part.
