Hi everyone. I just got my tank I ordered from Tropical Haven. 24"x24"x16". I'm slightly downsizing tanks from a standard 55g. I'm currently building the stand and canopy. I'll be taking my time since to build it since it'll basically be the first thing I've ever built...

Here's a pic of the tank...

I'll take some pics tomorrow as I build the stand. I'm using particle board so I'm gonna water proof it like crazy...

Also, I haven't told my wife I spent money on this project so I'm hiding the tank in a spare room we use for storing crap since she never goes in there...

Good luck to me!

I would reconsider the particle board and move to plywood. or atleast use some 2x4's for structural support. Just my $.02

It should be fine. Plywood would give a better finish and more strength if you haven't purchased materials yet.

yeah i'm gonna drill it. it'll be my first time drilling something...hopefully i dont screw up! it looked simple enough to do from the how to video i watched. gonna use a 1" bh

Go slow and irrigate with water and just enough pressure to let the drill do the work and you'll be fine.

You could make the whole stand from plywood. My 135 sits on double-strength plywood. But I suggest using MDF or particle board for the doors because most plywood will twist or torque if not locked into a build of some sort.

Here's an update...Almost done with the stand. Still gotta get the door cut to size. Need to buy hinges and trim. I just felt like painting it before I put trim on...I'm impatient like that

Stand feels very stable...used lots of primer...lots of nails...lots of wood filler...I have more 2x4's to put in for more support in case i feel the stand isnt stable enough. But so far it feels really stable. I want to avoid putting more 2x4's in because i dont want it to look so bulky

Is the back and front going to be open like its pictured. You might want to add something to counteract sheering (collapsing to the side.... now: l l => sheer/ / ) like the desk behind the stand in the photo. Even something simple like a couple of plywood triangles that go from the top down the back by several inches or so.

Not really. Haven't had the time to work on the stand the past week and a half. I always plan to when I get off of work, but the wife makes me run errands all the time. We're finally moving out of our parent's place so that's been taking up some time. Drama at home on my side of the family and she doesn't want to be around it. Long story...Anyway, hopefully I can find some time to finish it this week...I highly doubt it, but I'm aiming for it. Just gonna add 2 - 2x4's for side support in the front. I added triangle things on the back. Then I gotta finish on the door. Then finish painting.

Just added 2-2x4s in the front...I think the stand should be stable now. Just gonna add some trim...do a little sanding..then it'll be ready for paint. Hopefully I can find some time tmw to finish it

Sounds good Phi. Can you post some pics of the stand as it sits now? I'm thinking about building a stand here soon...
