Pic of my Squamosa and a question

I have had my first clam for a few weeks now, he is doing good, I first put him on the sand bed and the next day he would always be up against the glass, so I got him a nice flat rock and he stayed , he did not move for 5 days, but now tonight he was on his other flat side, which flat side does a squamosa like to rest on? They have a really flat side, the side I had him on , and then they have another flat side that is not as wide as the other side, I do not know how to explain this, but here is a pic of him when he was the way I had him before he flipped sides, another way to ask this question I guess it to ask which part should be closer to the rock he is setting on ,the input or output of the water spouts that they have?

with my crocea that i have in the sand i put a small flat piece of rock under it then barried the rock. The clam is barried a little bit. He stays more tilted to his front, not a side. Barry the clam with a little rock under its foot in the sand.

If the clam is set on just rock how should it be set, on the sand it seems they can bet set right at the corner of their shell where the joint is , but on rock they cannot set like that because that is more of a point. So what side should be on the rock?

Croceas like being in the rockwork. All the other giant clams like being in the sand. The squamosas normally loose their bysall threads as they age and the weight of their shell keeps them facing up (croceas keep their bysalls for ever). I like the small rock idea to hold them up. Are you sure nothing is messing with him and pushing him over? Turbo snails used to pester my clams to death. Aquacultured clams tend to have a flatter shape to them that makes them easier to push over and harder for them to right themselves.

With the Squamosas, you can either just place him in the sand and ease him in a bit or you can get a much smaller flat piece of rock and just place this against the flatter side (byssal opening) and let him rest against the smaller piece of rock in the sand. If he attaches, this will make him feel secure whereas his byssal opening is not exposed.

Ok, That is how I have him in the pic, is that ok, having him on that rock with the rock on the sand, but the clam is not on the sand, see pic above , or here is another pic

Well, what is your goal, to keep him off the sand? If not, then move him off the piece of rock ( towards the right if I'm looking @ your pic) and let the side that is laying down on the rock in your pic, just rest on the edge of the flat rock so that he is in a more upright position.
My 5" Maxima is in the exact position as your Squamosa is, except the Maxima has a more elongated shell so he does not look so tilted. Also, some clams will just never attach. I have a Teardrop Maxima that attached in one day and the 5" Maxima that I mentioned, has not attached after a few weeks.

Or maybe I will try like you said about moving him to the sand (that would be the left) with part of him resting on the rock, making him more upright .

FWIW my baby squamosa refuses to attach to anything and prefers to rest on it's side of all things. No matter how often I right the clam, it tips back over on it's side. Argh! today however I noticed that it had been on it's side this morning when I got up but at lights out time it was upright. I give up. Calms will make themselves comfortable where THEY want to be no matter how hard we try to put them where we want them.

Just leave him be. You are trying to thurm him toward the front, but he want to face the light.
I make a indentation in my sand (or my clams eventually will) and put him in it. This way he face directly up at the light.

I have finaly found a place my clam likes . I have moved him over to where there is less current and he has not moved for weeks.
