Pic of SPS from my 275

Well it certainly does not have the texture of a cap - think you are correct with that ID.

nice very impresive how much is your electric bill

Any ideas on an ID on this one? I always though Acropora hyacinthus. Also, this coral is illustated on my first post in this thread, back in 2006.

Tested today the levels today also, CA is 450, MG is 1375 and DKH is 9.

for someone with your expertise, well you are welcome to come by anytime for a sample :) I have 2 colonies on the go.

I will need a sample... for skeletal detail of course! :)

I considered a.cytherea, and I agree it looks like this aro now. However about 3 years ago this coral was one massive colony and it grew almost in a table-like form. The other colony I have on the go appears more table form also. I attached the old pic below, when I use to keep the coral at the back of the tank. Same coral 3 years ago, unly under 10K Ushio's.

Like the prefefrences I hear on many a.cytherea, I have always had this coral in high light high flow and it has done well.

my best guess is cytherea w/ a grain of salt

Same coral illustrated in 2006 under 10K Ushio's

"dynamic ecomorphology" :)

do you have access to any of veron's works w/ indo-pac corals? if you want ID's it is extremely helpful... not 100% because some features are hard to distinguish, but going by branch structure, non-rosette, appressed radials w/ open calices, squared exsert axials, coralite spacing, and lack of fusion led me to cytherea

again... all based on your picture which is 1D

Like Kip, I will need a sample to correctly identify. When passing through customs, just mark "for the good of science" ;)

Thanks Darryl. You should come by and check out the tank again somtime. The left side is looking pretty sharp these days, may re-arange the left side this weekend time permitting. Gotta get ready to put the car away for the winter...

I thought you told me the Stang was getting winter tires?? haha. I bet you'll feel a lot better with it in the garage for the winter.

Since you asked....I always love to see your tank. It is depressing when I get home though. :(

"dynamic ecomorphology" - show off :D Frankly, that term counds made up to me!!! And yes, I have 10's of thousands invested, and no books  I use welks and other internet resources from time to time when interested in a species ID, but now I typically just dwell on colour.

Ya, with the 4:10's and it lowered 1.5 inches, who was I kidding. Would be tough to drive and I don't want to beat it up to much...am looking for a truck for the winter now.

Kinda busy this weekend, but just let me know when you have some time to come by. Can see who else is around to if it's a weekend, have a pint. And oh ya get that new tank set-up!

WOW. nice collection.

the AIMs coral identification page is no more from what i can tell... broken link.. unless it can now be found elsewhere.

i dont know if tyree coined the phrase or not... dynamic ecomorphology i assume would be how the many environmental characteristics (light, water movement, nutrient levels, etc) affect the physical characteristics of one species of coral... i'd guess this happens in nature from geographic region to geographic region... and transcend to the hobby from tank to tank (ie: "my OBT from weast looks different than your OBT from weast")

here is his site... but i havent seen his explanation of the term
http://www.dynamicecomorphology.com/

Ah yes, now I recall that term. Had it not been coined before Tyree used it, bravo. The definition makes perfect sense.

I was thinking it was a prostrata, but mille's look so similar to me.

As a good ID guy, would you say this was a prostrata? I can not recall how to differentiate between prostrata and millepora species. Guess I owe you a couple frags now for all this work :)

<a href=showthread.php?s=&postid=13712184#post13712184 target=_blank>Originally posted</a> by Kip
first kinda looks like what eric used to call a snowcone prostrata

having a hard time getting this posted... maybe 3x is a charm...

extremely difficult to tell the difference when they are young from a distance, but if you can see the branches up close

... the prostrata is supposed to have uniform radials and the mille polymorphic

arrrgghh... i dont know if it is my connection or the rc server

anyway... you 1st looks prostrata and your 2nd mille

i used to think the prostrata grew more "prostrate"... but that is definitely subject to "dynamic ecomorphology" :) :) :)

i stayed in a holiday inn last nite :)
