A pair of Grade A Picasso's would be outstanding in your reef! I like the snowflakes as well but not as much as the Picasso's. I'm planning on doing Picasso's in my reef.

I agree; the Picasso's would be great. I just need to think about it more before I decide. Sorry Matt, I dropped the ball on the pic showing the tank with the black sand. I'll definitely get it tomorrow, though. :thumbsup:

How do the sunbursts do in a small tank. Everyone is trying to talk me out of keeping them in a nano. I have a 29 bowfront. What do you feed them.

The Sunburst's do very well in a smaller tank. They don't swim very much as is; they like to keep themselves close to one certain area of the reef. You would probably be fine with a 29 bow. This tank is 30g, but the footprint is 2'x2'. I feed them a planktivore food and mysis shrimp. Hope that helps!

Did you try at least one white bulb ?

I think with one or maybe two white bulbs like aquablue special, the pinks and some blue colors will pop more

Yes, I've tried the following combinations:

4 Blue Plus, 2 Aquablue Specials
4 Blue Plus, 1 Aquablue Special, 1 Fiji Purple
4 Blue Plus, 1 Super Actinic, 1 Aquablue Special
4 Blue Plus, 1 Fiji Purple, 1 Pro Color
and lastly,
4 Blue Plus, 2 Fiji Purples

The last combination, which is represented in the pics I've posted, shows the best overall color, to me. The pinks, purples, yellows, greens, oranges, and blues all seem to pop. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to figure out a good white balance on my D60, yet. The pics that you see are not the best representation of the color as they are still a bit more blue than the tank is in person. Honestly, it reminds me of Phoenix's, after they burned in, with just a touch more blue.

I'll try to get some better shots tomorrow, one's that are more true to the actual temp of the lighting. Thanks Denadai!

Thanks for the heads up! :thumbsup: I tried the Arctipods; my wrasse and hogfish love 'em, but the anthias don't touch 'em. I was a bit surprised.

The Sunpower is a great light; I used two of those over my 90g. You're right the Blue Plus' definitely do wash out the pinks and purples, but the KZ Fiji Purple brings them right back. I honestly can say that there isn't a color that doesn't come out in this tank. If you like it more white with a touch of blue, then I'd go with the following on a 6 bulb fixture:

Blue Plus
Aquablue Special
Blue Plus
Blue Plus
KZ Fiji Purple
Blue Plus

Aquablue's and Procolors wash the Blue Plus' out quickly; that's why in my opinion you want to keep more Blue Plus than 2 like you mentioned in your thread. Also, I believe that a 6 bulb would be plenty on your system. The list that's mentioned in your thread had an actinic, which I believe would be a little of a waste of a bulb space. Blue Plus' are the best of both worlds, great blue with good PAR. If you decide to go with an 8 bulb Powermodule, then you could consider low PAR bulbs like actinics because it could be too much light otherwise.

These are purely my thoughts Denadai. I hope they help you in some way. Can't wait to see pics of your tank as things continue to grow.

Black Sand!

Black Sand!

Here's the pic of the tank with the black sand, as promised!

It has that one spot that gets cleared out in the front, which I'll have to fix cause that annoys me. Other than that, I'm really digging it.

That pic reminds me...I need to fix that T. Crocea up front.

Looking good. I don't understand why people say that black sand can look dirty after some time. Maybe I have it backwards, but I would think that white sand would show everything.

Did soaking the sand prevent a dust storm? Did you use a pipe to place the sand?

What setting do you run your 2 MP40W's at? I was thinking of using 2 MP10's in my 45g cube.. but I wonder if that will actually be enough?

Thanks Upster! Well, black sand can probably show detritus pretty easily; it's kind of like how a black car can show dust and pollen very easily. But, you're right, so can white sand. In my opinion, when shallow, all sand needs to be 'vacuumed' to get the 'goodies' out.

While that wasn't the main purpose for soaking, yes it does help to keep the dust down. I used a dedicated measuring cup to place the sand; a pipe probably would have been faster.

I run the 2 MP40W's on Reef Crest (one anti-synced to the master) at about 25% each. This is way over-kill! :lmao: On a 45g cube, I might be inclined to go with 2 MP20's. The MP10's would probably be ok at first, but you might find yourself in want, later down the road when things grow out. The MP20's also give you the advantage to upgrade later, if you get a larger tank. Let me know what you decide and how it works out for you.

Sounds good! I completely sympathize with you on the budget. If I didn't have the MP40's and skimmer laying around, then I wouldn't have those particular ones.

Well, I actually got tired of the sand. I couldn't use the vortechs very much at all, and I noticed some corals weren't very happy without flow. So, I took it out. The corals are happy again.

Now, I'm setting up 2 18" cubes and 1 12" cube on a system. I'll end up transfering the corals to that system. The height of the Neo just isn't what I'm looking for, and a friend of mine wants to buy the tank and stand. So, it works out. I hope your Neo goes well!
