Picasso and Snowcasso questions

I been looking into Picasso Clowns and Snowcasso Clowns. Does anyone own these fish? Are they hardy? They're very pricey so I want to make sure. Are there any breeders in Alabama? I saw one in NC, but was hoping for someone closer. Also, if I add two of these clowns when they are young will they both take to one Anenome or would they perfer their own?

I do. If healthy, just as hardy as any perc or false perc. Two young ones should take to one nem, and eventually would most likey make a "bonded" or mated pair.

I live in AU..

and ordered my picassos from out of state. They are very healthy and active. If you order a "pair" what you're getting is two very young clowns that are kind of bonded. But mine never leave each other's side.

Picasso's are not exclusive to ORA. There is a user here that breeds them. (from NC I believe)

Did you read what I wrote? Sherlock?

I said or local breeders. The breeders got them from ORA.

"Did you read what I wrote? Sherlock?"

Nice that was mature. I did read what you wrote. You did say

"Picasso is exclusive from ORA"

Which is obviously not true. Don't lash out at me because I pointed it out.

If you can get them from a local breeder then they aren't exclusive are they?

Go crawl back under your rock.

FYI, snowcassos are the name that Doni gave her picasso offspring that had excessive white. They're the same as picassos, just a higher grade than A or B.

Picassos are essentially "misbarred" percula clowns and have the same hardiness level as percs do. If you're interested in getting yourself a pair from ORA check with your LFS...that's the only way you'll get them in Alabama. Doni/Woodstock has a spawning pair of ORA picassos and she's raising fry from them. Doni is located in North Carolina, so if you want to get them from her you'll either need to make a roadtrip or get them shipped. I got a pair from Doni a little over a week ago and I'm quite happy with them. She currently is finishing out her waiting list and then will be going to a buy it now process. You can read her thread about raising clowns and see her sale thread on Reef Sanctuary (hope posting that's legal).

Chances are that they'll share an anemone if they're bonded (which they most certainly will be eventually, they won't be old enough to be females yet) and they'll get along just fine.

prestage3k, you'd better take that pic down before a mod does...profanity isn't smiled upon here ;)

My Picasso and snowcasso did not come from ORA, Unless ORA owns the ocean floor of the Solomon Islands and all the water above it, and everything the water contains. ORA did get the original Picasso male (WILD caught from S.I.) and THEY did coin the phrase Picasso, but I don't think they trademarked it, and they and Doni are not the only ones breeding Picasso, Snowcasso, Cotton Candy, Davinci or Naked Clowns!

Cotton Candy, Davinci...Clowns!

What do these clowns look like? I tried to google them, but no luck.

oh man= more types LMAO

Seriously, I have a pair of the NC bred picassos. I LOVE them!!! I picked them up, saw her set up, saw the parents, she's super nice, it's a clean healthy set up. No horrible importing, none of that nothing taken from the ocean and no chemicals to catch them. Reasonably priced too!!!! Tank raised!!! The way to go IMO. My fish are healthy, beautiful and did I say beautiful?

They are hosting a GBTA now. At first, they chose a torch coral. There are a few others that I know that got them too and they hosted right away. I bought an A and a B, and they are still working out dominancy. Whoever said you get two very young fish is right, they are young, but they've never been exposed to any disease and they are def not sexed yet.

Perfect!!

Thanks everyone! Sorry to be the source for a "dispute" but hope everyone can put their disagreements aside and go back to the reason we're here: learning and the love for the underwater world. I understand you were trying to help me. I truely appreciate it.

With that aside I think I will contact NC and get placed on her waiting list. I would really like to pick them out myself. Shipping would be easier, but I don't know what I'll get. I loved the pic of the candycane too! Here are some more questions.

Can you mix a Picasso with another type, or do they have to be the same type. For example a Picasso with a black and white (not sure what they are callled)?

I heard there were non-stinging types of Anenomes. What type is best for clowns? I would love to have a bright colorful, tenically (not sure if this is a word) one, but I have other fish and corals. If anyone has a good on-line source of pictures or links that would be awesome!

What city in NC does Doni\Woodstock live in. I'm planning a ski trip to Boone next month so maybe it's on the way. That would be fantastic!

You cannot contact Doni and get on her waiting list, she's closed it. When she's fufilled the orders on that list she'll be moving to a buy it now process...you'll have to wait until then.

You can mix a picasso with other perculas or ocellaris with no problem...a picasso with a black and white would be fine.

As far as an anemone goes, I would recommend a BTA or LTA, but you've got to have the right lighting for them (usually MH, but other types such as T5 or VHO might work too).
