Picked Up a New Angel, A little out of the ordinary....

I like my dwarf angels. I've been wanting one of these for awhile and they don't come around that often... This isn't the easiest fish to keep, it's deepwater and relatively shy. I was planning on putting it in an acclimation box for a few days, but got home with it late last night and realized being the selfless reefer I am I realized I had let a friend borrow it. So 11pm last night after drip acclimating for a few hours I'm trying to clean out a Costco Cashew Container, but the label wasn't coming off cleanly..... So off she went into the tank. No congratulations yet, let's wait and see if I have a good update in a month....

Humaguy./Ted --- Thanks, I just hope she's not too shy. While watching the tank last night I spotted 1 of my golden angels, so it will be another 4-6 weeks before I get a glimpse of that fish again.... LOL

Dmorty - I hope to be able to post good news in a few weeks that shes out and about and a eating superstar.

I saw one at wholesale last week. I almost jumped on it, but no more Angels for me. Can't justify the angel for my zoas

Congrats

Very nice fish.
Mind if I ask where this colini originated from?

Just that I've heard there is a little variation in colour intensity between different regions and am curious whether this is true or not?

PS nice bellus, too.

D-man, My angels are pretty well behaved and leave the zoas alone. I haven't tried any blue zoos in awhile, they usually grow to about a cluster of 30+ and then out of the blue the Goldflake just decimates them in a day.

Paka/Karen - Thanks... The little misbar came home with me at about the 3/4" size. Been patiently waiting to see what the pattern grows into.

Suta - This fish is from Marshall Islands. I located one from Australia about a year ago. But it came in shaky and didn't last long enough to bring home. And the price was 4x the price of this one.

I've only seen one from Australia myself, and the colors on it were not as good as the others I have seen, but that was also on a fish that wasn't 100%.

DMorty, I got the Bellus really tiny, probably only 3/4" and that's with the tail. Now with tail probably just over 3.25" But the misbar one is pretty shy. There are a lot of fish in the tank, but nobody picks on her she is just a Bellus that actually likes to cruise through the rock work and is only open water swimming maybe 15% of the time.

Update:

So the Colini went into the tank last Thursday night. As I left the tank to head off to bed the Colini had found the surge tank outlet (2" bulkhead in end of tank) and had made that her little den. However, when the surge isn't surging that pipe is also the home for a giant lawnmower blenny, who takes turns with an Obese Orange tail damsel.

With the Colini in the pipe, the Orange Tail Damsel, was backing into the pipe and kind of keeping the Colini corralled inside.

Last weekend I diligently watched the tank for a glimpse of the Colini. Flashlights were brought out angled at any opening in the rock work trying to catch a glimpse of this fish. Golden angels were spotted, Pipefish were spotted, Anthias in crevices were found. And a Rosy Solon Wrasse, which went into the tank 6-8 months ago and was never seen again, was found hanging out underneath my Monti cap colony. But no signs of the colini, not a glimpse, a fin, or a carcass.

I kept up my peering and prying into the tank all week. On 2 nights my wife said, 'Just start pulling out the rock so you will feel better." My wife loves the fish tank, but has no idea what it takes to start pulling rock out of it. And I'm not pulling rock out of my tank to find a fish for my own conscious.

Last night I fed the tank just about everything I had in the house, and went flashlight searching.... Zip Zero Nada.

Today Lawrence/Bullitr came over to pick up some Xenia, and while we are looking at the tank the little Colini comes out of a cave and makes an appearance. And then sits in the cave 1/2 visible with 2 Venustus, then with the Golden Angel and then with some Dispar anthias.

She doesn't look skinny, and I saw her picking at the roof of the cave.

I added a bunch of food to see if there was any interest, but once the fish in the tank got excited over food, she vanished into the darkness again.

But the first week has passed, now with a couple of good visual sightings, and seeing the fish moving calmly and slowly I have some confidence in the fish.
