I have a 175 mh. i just dont know if i can get to work on my hood!! how far from the water must the bulb be? I have a 15k
20k and a 10k bulb , witch one is better.. Any mounting suggestions? I have only a bulb and socket a crappy metal reflector. From the water to top of hood its 7inches at most!

Well... why is it that you are thinking about going to a MH? Your PC seems to be growing your softies just fine. Is it that you want to start keeping SPS, or do you like the ripple?

If you are happy with the type of livestock you currently keep, I wouldn't change the lighting.

Wow!

Wow!

Brad, congratulations on your beautiful, healthy aquarium!! I haven't visited this site in so long, the last time I posted was in your thread during set up. It looks awesome, I love the pics.

I think you want your halide at least 9" from the water surface, and you would need some serious fans to keep it from heating a tank this size. If you get a fixture which you can drill to fit fans into, so they're not blowing across your water surface, you will have less evaporation. If you set fans to blow on your water surface, while helping with heat, they will cause serious evaporation.

Are you planning on switching the type of corals you are keeping? If you are, I would opt for the 15k just for asthetics. If you switch to a halide with your current corals, you run a serious risk of burning them. You will have to acclimate them slowly to the new lighting, and I would totally re-scape to get some 'shady' areas for those shrooms to take cover in. Just my .02...

Thank you all for you're great comments, and thank's to all who helped with great advice to help me to get tank where it's at today !!!!!!

Looks awesome! How did the corals react to the new light? Is the PC total gone and now it's just the MH in there?

Pics of the lighting system would be nice if you can.

Thank you for nice comments! I have 175 mh 14 k
also 130w of pc. 1 65w 10k double, 1 65 w blue double tube !
I am reworking wire on pc retro as we speak. I will take pic when finished. I got MH fixture for trade. Swapped him even up for Coralife 130w pc fixture! Great trade.....
