pics off NYaquatic

How come the pictures of a lot of the wrasses on nyaquatic look really dull compared to other sites? Like the mccoskers, pink margin, exquisite, and even the lineatus? is it the lights they are under or just what I should expect if I bought them?

I have noticed the same thing. I have ordered two fish from them and both were great. They weren't wrasse though and that's what seems to look bad on their pictures.

It is the lighting, NYAquatic spends time and effort on the fish and rare or rarer fish instead of fancy pictures. The fish sell themselves

Yeah, would you like fancy colorful pics that are photo shopped and charge 5x the going price like some nameless coral vendors or would you have reasonable prices?

As a photographer I can tell you that they (NY Aquatics) appears to be leaving the saturation slider in Photoshop at the "as shot level." Live Aquaria cranks that baby up making everything look over saturated and fake. - My $0.02

Regarding fish pics, I think LADD"s pics are true to color. Every fish I've gotten from them looks just like the picture. I just think the NY pics are shot under little, or ambient, lighting (which is also fine, IMO). LADD uses 400W MH

Agree; also my experience.

+2 ... I don't recall ANY individual tank lighting at NYA... And many of his pics are older 'stock/on file'

there are no lights directly on the fish tanks...
I will take some pics next time I am there...
it is not a beautiful place...it is in a warehouse and the space is not built out like a showroom...there is saltcreep and the tanks are on simple wooden frames...
It is a large collection of tanks, without direct lighting, that has an insane filtration system, that leads to excellent conditions, and he gets some of the rarest livestock avail. in the world..
I have been a customer for over 10 years and highly recommend him...

Truth be told, I never thought I'd see a thread like this outside of the SPS or LPS forums

I agree. I personally think there should be short videos of fish as opposed to pictures. It's not hard to give a tank adequate lighting to shoot a short iPhone video. No photoshop...no alterations. Plus as potential buyers we can see how responsive they are and if there are any abnormalities on and around its body that you can't really see in pictures.
