anyone have pictures of this algae growing?

I've looked at mine recently.. I have had it for two weeks and it has like white strands growning from it... Looks like its attaching itself onto my HOB refugium.

Chaetomorpha does not grow any holdfasts or attachment structures. Caulerpa sort of grows like a vine putting out leaves off the top of the vine and white holdfasts off the bottom, so maybe you have some Caulerpa.

here are a couple pics:

thanks for the pictures. is calupera the one that has little small bubbles on the vine? Should i take it out if i dont want it to go sexual?

Caulerpa is a genus which means it has many species doing the vine thing with all kinds of different shaped leaves. You probably have grape Caulerpa which is Caulerpa racemosa.

Just trim it occasionally vs just letting it grow and grow and grow and that will reduce the chances of it crashing. It also pulls nutrients, so it isn't exactly evil. Maybe get some Chaeto to share the sump with the Caulerpa.

today i already pulled out all the signs of calupera and threw it away. I can't have that chance of it going sexual because im an unexperienced reefer. So I wanna be almost 99% certain that the tank will not crash. I don't have a sump =(

So now all i have is the chatemorpha. I just got my light fixture in today that is a 2x9 coralife fixture with 1 10k and the other atintic. That should be enough for it to grow like yours right =)
