Hey Chinkalink how big where the halibut you caught? Went to Seal beach tonite shore fishing ,to catch halibut . Ended up catching between 10-15 different kinds of rays, sand sharks,1 leopard shark, 1 smooth hound shark and a croacker. Don't need a license at Seal beach ,use to go off the pier but its been too packed latley.

I would double check on the license issue. I believe you do need a license for any ocean fishing except for the two "free" days they have.

Only exception I know of are are fresh water private lakes (Irvine Lake, Santa Ana Riverlakes, Jess Ranch, Hesperia lake and a few others).

i think they will be open its not a pier its a dock where they sell live bait to boats just pay the guy and you could fish on one of his 3 docks, his dock is located on the left side of fishermans village where you go in and grab your parking ticket dont forget to get your ticket validated before you leave. You need a license for sure at this place though they have a sign posted as you walk up to the dock

You don't need any lic fishing at the pier unless your caughting lobster and other fish forgot the name but their not in so cali.

you don't need a license period on any public pier, you can hoop net for lobster, crab, whatever.. as long as it's in season and of legal size

Anybody in the Oxnard/Ventura areas?
After about 20+ years of not fishing, I decided to give it a shot again. Just picked up a rod/reel 2 weeks ago for some pier fishing. Not quite sure if I'm doing it right but I managed to get mackrel and sardines. Haha. I'm all about night fishing. Would rather not deal with the crowds and heat during the day.

FYI Copy and paste from F&G
new for 2008 for spiny lobster

Required for all anglers taking spiny lobster beginning September 27, 2008, including persons who are not required to have a sport fishing license, such as persons who are under 16 years of age, persons who are fishing from a public pier and persons who are fishing on free fishing days.

its right next to Long Beach, I get to it off the 22 frwy, exit says Seal Beach. I always catch sharks there with squid, if you use mussels you catch croackers. I recommend shore fishing over the pier.

oops forgot to say that what was required in my last post was a Spiny Lobster Report Card which is new for this year.

Triggerman71 is there a more exact area that you can give us about the location.

seal beach

seal beach

The 22 frwy toward Long Beach, you can't miss it the exit says Seal Beach, when you get off make a left and go straight down that street you will pass PCH Hwy on the corner there is Big Fish Bait and Tackle were you can get bait or the Liquor store next to it also sell bait. The street you make a left when you get off the frwy is Main St. I believe, that st. takes you straight into Seal Beach. So Big Fish Bait &Tackle is on the corner of PCH Hwy and Main St. If you still can't find it ask them there and they will tell you from there. I would plan on going when it is warmer as the fish tend to be more active and bite like crazy.

Obviouly you don't have a job or a declining one, as you have the time to post on a thread that you have nothing positive to say.. Why don't you crawl back under the rock you came out of and keep your stupid comments to yourself.

Cool catch, I went late last night off the shore it was really ruff caught 10 in. croacker and small sand shark. Tried the pier around 11pm ,didn't even get a bite and everyone around did n't have any luck either. There was a few that came from the end of the pier and said they caught a few halibut around 12 in. using chunks of Mackeral. When its good its really good and sometimes it sucks. I hear off Huntington pier they catch larger sharks and batrays from 80-120 lbs . For this size you need 30lb + test plus patience. Hoe big is that Sculpin 12in ?
