Pier fishing

^^^ one of the best tasting fish in the ocean. Sculpin (rattlesnake) and Sheephead (billy goats) are awesome eating fish.

It was around 12inch forgot to measure it I know dits legal size tho just not exact measurements.

Depending on what type of fish and where the peir is at. Farm fish is kinda the same also where they are farmed. Ever notice that some salmon in the supermarket has "color added" notes on them. Since the farmed salmon doesn't eat their normal diet like their wild brother and sister eats their flesh are color differently and thus color is added along with a cocktail of other chemicals.

IMO wild fish are much better then those that are farmed (aqua / mariculture) This is the case with EU farmed salmon where I read a report that you should not consumer more then 2 servering or 16oz within a 3 months period.

All marine fish has mercury in them depending on the fish some contain more then others. The common rule is the fish higher up the food chain the more mercury in them.

you have to be careful in your methods of cooking them. gutting them and avoiding the stomach area is a must. broiling is usually a good way to kill as much bacteria as possible that may be present in the fish.

The 22 frwy toward Long Beach, you can't miss it the exit says Seal Beach, when you get off make a left and go straight down that street you will pass PCH Hwy on the corner there is Big Fish Bait and Tackle were you can get bait or the Liquor store next to it also sell bait. The street you make a left when you get off the frwy is Main St. I believe, that st. takes you straight into Seal Beach. So Big Fish Bait &Tackle is on the corner of PCH Hwy and Main St. If you still can't find it ask them there and they will tell you from there. I would plan on going when it is warmer as the fish tend to be more active and bite like crazy.

thats where i go...405 exit seal beach...pass the liquor & bait store on the right side...
end up fishing off a bridge or the rocks next to it...theres a restaurant/night club there also...ive only caught 1 fish there...is that where you go ?

Ya thats it,somes times the fish bite better that other times. Try .( the beach side in front of the life guard shack. go in the surf up to your knees or deeper and try casting over were the waves break. This last Saturday was the best fishing off shore .A few weeks before that (same spot) I caught a huge guitar fish over 4ft and leaopard shark along with 4 sting rays. Last night the some reason it was bad ( Maybe the undertow was too strongwater a bit cooler. ) who knows.

Try doing the surf fishing, its better than pier. Try using squid, anchovy, mussels. Squid seems to get you more sharks and bat rays, sting rays. Mussels will get you croackers. Last year my brother hooked a Dorado off the pier with mussel only to have it break away when bringing it up the pier. Good to get a net with rope for pier fishing.

Wow - a Dorado off the pier. I never heard of that before. Thats really cool. How big? Did it jump or tailwalk?

I hear about people catching big striped bass out of the local surf. I was on the HB pier this weekend - and there was ALOT of baitfish in the water.

The reason might be that the fishing was bad at seal beach at the pier at less on monday night was because of the seal that was going back and front along the pier and maybe the shore also. However we did see some large fish maybe 3 or 4 ft at least under the water surface. That would go by a few times when the seal wasn't at the pier.

It did jump once when close to the pier. We had no idea of what kind of fish it was until we looked it up after (Big hump forehead and really shiny) that day we stood there fishing all night till the crack of dawn when the dorado hit. Monday we went there late night around 9:30 pm so did not see any big fish , but I have been there during the day when you can see schools of cuda swimming by the pier. Cuda like shinny spoons I hear , maybe I'll try jig fishing one day off the pier try to land me a cuda. The Seal could have been the reason why it was dead.
