Pink Birdsnest?

Have birdsnests fallen out of favor? There used to be a lot of pictures/posts about them and I haven't seen one in a long time now.

Quick question

What makes some of them thin branched and real pointed tips and others thicker branched and rounded tips? Is it conditions or type?

Birds nest for me are kinda tricky. My tanks is flourishing with acropora. My birdsnests dont really grow. I have a cataloupe sized one up high and a golf ball sized one lower and lower light. Both nothing. The other corals are gonna overgrow them soon. I sure love the bright pink though. Whats the deal?? Oh, the big one is thin and the small is thicker. I got them that way.

I, too, have both a green thick branched and a pink thin-branched. They grew like mad for a while and have since slowed to a crawl (nothing really over the last 6 months).

I've tried moving them around to change flow/light and nothing. At least the color on both has stayed consistent. I'm confused, too!

There appears to be at least 5 or 6 described species of Seriatopora.
S. hystrix is the "Birdsnest" coral. It has finely tapered branches ending in sharp points. S. caliendrum is the "blunt branch Birdsnest", although it's a highly variable species. Water flow can have have an impact on the tapering shape of their branches, IME.
I don't know if Seriatopora have fallen out of favor. It certainly seems that Acanthastrea is the latest rage.
I obtained a fluorescent green Seriatopora frag this past July that is simply amazing Hydnophora-like green.

I have several different birds.

Thin and thick branched pink.

Green Thick branched(neon)

Green thin with blue polyps.

I like them very much.

I have three. One is blunt and has thick long very pink branches. A frag will encrust. I have a pinker one that has pointed thin branches. Finally I just recieved a small lime green ORA piece from a collector in Lyn Haven. I will try to post some images tomorrow. Location and current do not seem to influence the two pinks ones so much that their natural growth is that different. The blunt one seems to stay blunt no matter where it goes. It also seems to be very adaptive as far as light goes. It gets a darked deeper red in a shadier place. It makes a great base reef.
They seem pretty hardy in my tanks. Almost a pest they grow so fast and get big quick.

almost pink, I've had them color shift from brown to pink depending on placement, I'm assuming different light and flow levels. This pic it was under 440w VHO ( 2 x 03 white 2 x 03 blue )

Flow seems to change mine. It was thin branched, and with more flow seems to have thickened up.

birdsnest corals are one of my fav SPS corals cause the pink can be shockingly bright

Either flow, being closer to the lights or a combination did the same for mine. The points were noticeably "sharper" as well.
