pistol shrimp which goby to pair with ?

From what I learned from James (Saltydog) on wetwebmedia it is unlikely that the diamond goby will pair up with a pistol shrimp that does not live in the same general area (indo-pacific). I learned this while asking if my Caribbean pistol shrimp would pair with my orange diamond sleeper goby.

I have no idea which specific species of pistol shrimp pair with diamond gobies, sorry. If you find out please share with me :)

If that is a diamond goby you have in a 12 nano, I'm concerned for the goby: they are notorious for refusing anything but food in the sand, and starving to death when they sand-crud runs out. You might see if you can trade him to your lfs for something a little more sedate, like a yellow watchman or a highfin: either of those will happily pair with a shrimp: the yellow watchman likes the tiger pistol, and the highfins like the candycane pistol.

Yeah he is in my 12 gallon had him for 5 months impulse buy did not read before hand.

But he eats pellet food, flake food and mysis shrimp no problem what so ever with him.

Just wanted to add a pistol to go with him but maybe I will have to scrap that idea.

What does a yasha goby pair with?

Good on the pellet food and mysis: so many won't touch it. He should be ok, then.
I'm not sure that the diamonds are inclined to pair with a shrimp...I can't remember about the yasha: they're about the same size as the highfins, who like the candycane: that's a very tiny pistol shrimp, scaled for it, and they're small enough they shouldn't overcrowd your tank.

Will the diamond and a yasha get along or do they fight plus a 12 gallon might not be big enough for both.

I dont really want to get rid of the diamond back he fun to watch Im glad mine eats what I put in I did not know they were picky eaters.

If your diamond guy is getting along well, I would say no to a yellow watchman---I don' t *think*, however, a diamond woul dfight with a yasha: I could be wrong, but I have a yellow watchman and some highfins that get along fine, and that's a similar pairing. You might also look at some of the very, very tiny gobies like the trimma, etc, and clown gobies, which would be to scale with your tank. Just pick and choose and don't get them all, just enough that everybody can have a comfortable living space.

looks like the yasha gets only about 2.5 inches and the candy pistol doesn't get very big 2 inches.

I don't think they will fight because differn't goby species but I want to know for sure.

I don't think trimma gobys pair with a pistol do they

Are you sure the diamond is actually consuming the pellets and flakes? Mine tries to eat them but they're not a suitable shape for him to filter out of the sand and they go right through the gills like sand grains. Mine lives entirely on what small amount of critters he catches in the DSB and mysis shrimp. Luckily he's at work so I get to feed him mysis pretty much all day, so he's fat and happy.

Anyone feed their diamond goby live black worms or another type of live food more nutritious than brine shrimp?

yeah he eats them flakes and pellets but the tank gets mysis every other day.

I feed my sun coral and the goby eats right from the turkey baster

Sweet. Mine hides all day and is afraid of everything unfortunately. I had to train him to come out and eat by tapping on the glass lightly with my forceps everytime it's feeding time. He's a smart little fish when he's not busy being a wuss :)
