What is this?
My first though was sponge but I've never seen anything like it before.
The part of rock it's on was under a ledge. Two days ago it was not there when I moved the whole rock out into the light, and tonight is the first I've seen it.
There's a smaller one behind it that's hard to see. Can't tell if they are connected. Best described as a spiked ball on a stick. Like the underwater mines in Finding Nemo.

Hello Every one. I am new in saltwater and reef aquarium. I used to have freshwater aquarium for more than 15 years. But this is my first time with reef aquarium. I have started with a 10 gallon Nano tank. It is now in cycling time. It is in day 5, and I have noticed something starting to cover my living rocks. It looks like something soft and white. Please see the photos and tell me what is it. Is it good or not??? And if it is not good how to take it off????

I found the snail without a shell looking thing this morning and the tiny clear star looking thing on the glass last night.

I bought some live rock from the LFS the other day, and I've found several different hitchhikers. Any idea what this is under the starfish arm? Cup coral maybe?

The first picture looks like some sort of sea slug. The second picture is a Hydroid.

It looks more like a Zoanthid or Palythoa to me. Is it hard or somewhat soft to the touch?

Not sure what this is. I tried to get grab one, but they fall off glass as soon as I get close to it. I am hoping they are not a problem. I haven't added anything to tank in about a year and the set up is over 8 years old. Sorry for image quality, best I can do with something so small. Its about 1 to 2 mm.

It looks kind of like a harmless Isopod IMO.

Definitely soft to the touch, and very upset about being poked. :furious:

Relexus, your snail is an Engina species, which is technically a whelk, although that one doesn't get very big and isn't likely to do much harm. It will eat tiny animals. It's in the same family as the "Bumblebee" snails.

I am no expert but that looks like a bristleworm.

Okay what the heck is this? This is the only live rock that has this- got it out of a fellow reefers tank. A scarlet hermit crab that was in the tank for 2-3 days crawled into the nook and now I'm pretty sure he is no more (hasn't moved a bit in the last 3days) When I blasted him with a turkey baster last night I wasn't sure if he moved a leg on his own or if it was just a power head. Also seems pale.

Any ideas what could be living in there? Do I need to get this rock out of my tank?

Hi guys, muy tank is done cicling and so far I've found and id'd an asterina star,
tons of stomatella snails, a bristle worm, at least 10 feather dusters, and a couple aiptaisias, but I'm totally lost as to what these guys are.

This tube worm looking thingy has two antennae and stays in its spot.

I thought this was a pinnaple sponge but it seems to be getting way to big, do they get this size or do I have something else?

This thing here seems to have a syphon hole in the middle, and sometimes dissapears for a while leaving just a greyish/purple blob of goo in it's place, and later reappers in the same spot.

Smooth red worm dissapearing into a hole in the rock.

This last creature is the one that puzzles me the most. I have two of them but they are almost impossible to photograph because they are practically invisible from the front unless they have some particles sticking to their outside tentacles as in this pic. They live in a hole in the rock, dont seem to react to light, I haven't se en them retract into their holes. They have a few thicker inner tentacles surrounded by row of really thin tentacles that look like fiberglass and shine iridescent pink or blue when my lights are on , but this can only be seen from certain angles. I think it catches particles from the water column and eats them. They don't look at all like any feather duster I've seen.
Please help me out, and sorry for the huge post!
