White Fuzzy, Squishy like things - HELP! They're taking over
First off, i've searched as much as possible without going completely insane.
A bit of background, Bought some live rock a month ago, put it in the tank. Noticed a couple lil white fuzzy-ish things, didnt think too much about it, looked pretty harmless, wrote them off as filter-feeders.
Well Now I'm noticing these things on the back glass, on my power heads, and on that one piece of rock that they originally came on. Mind you in one month it went from two on that rock to like 50 now.
I take it there's nothing good about something that reproduces in the tank like that. I'm pretty sure that hydroids are ruled out as they are usually very very tiny.
can anyone identify this thing? magically appeared when the lights came on...does not move under its own power...no discernible eyes or mouth.....size is guageable by the turbo snail also in the pic...I tossed it in the sump.
Jason, harmless pineapple sponges. Lots of pics of those in this thread LOL.
bigmikey, no idea. Usually if you take something out, you should take good, clear pics of it isolated in a dish or something for easier ID.
This morning I found something that had crawled up the glass during the night. No idea what it is, maybe a pest anemone? It's very small so it was hard to get a good picture. I'll keep trying.
In case it helps, the live rock is from Bali, Indonesia.
ryno, it looks like some kind of leather. Maybe a finger leather.
kgis, not sure what you're asking about. Can you get a closer pic with whatever it is in the center?
It's spherical with 4 spikes, set roughly evenly across it forming triangles. There are no discernible openings, though there is a darker line on one side. Back on the glass it seemed to have 3 very thin "long" tentacles, maybe more.
it's roughly 2mm in diameter, though it could be slightly below that 1.8mm mayhaps. It appears to be pretty hard.
Seems I can no longer edit my post. I thought I would add this, photo of one of the live rock pieces that is curing. There seem to be quite a few of them. Only marked out the ones I saw quickly.
