Pix & ID: Critters that come in your rocks: the good and the bad.

is the mini brittle starfish harmful? and does it stay that size. I think I have one in some live rock I put in to get my aquarium cycling. tried to get a pic but whatever I have is a good hider

just put in the live rock and sand, so it's still cloudy to see but I did notice this big guy. some sort of crab? about the size of a zippo lighter i believe. should I try to catch him and put in sump?

Found this snail while out on the boat. Can anyone ID it? It has a hard flap that protects itself once it goes inside the shell. Good or bad?

Hitch Hiker. Grew to the size of a button. Two weeks later. Now there are 3. Looks very nice but, i'm leaning towards bad. This is i believe an Anemone correct? They have a green florescence.

It's a Banded Tulip. They eat clams and other snails. They are very attractive, but you just about need to keep them in a species tank and catch snails to feed them, since they'll eat any snails you have in your cleanup crew.

Cheers,

Don

Oh wow thanks for the info!

I'll think twice about putting it in my tank then lol

Hi everyone.

Found those little guys in my tank recently. It's definitely a nudibranch, but i don't know which one...

Doesn't seems to attack any corals directly, as it's roaming around the tank. Even sponges are growing. No algaes either...

Any ideas?

Those little reddish nudibranchs are Vayssierea felis. They feed only on spirorbid worms, the little white spirals that you find on your rockwork and glass. I'm sure there are lots of people who wish they had them.

Cheers,

Don

I have this rock in my QT tank with a coral that was given to me on it. It started with a ton of these white hairs barely sticking out of the rock, but they're growing quite a bit. Are they something to worry 'bout?
Thanks!
Andrew
