Pix & ID: Critters that come in your rocks: the good and the bad.

hi worm,

they look exactly like that, my guess is that they are feather worms, but I have at least 100!!!

also I have a picture which I have a few off these hanging about my rocks!

need to know whether I should get rid of, I have a couple of domino damsel at the moment and I don't really want them dead.

What's this? It's definitely some kind of mollusk, but what? It moves VERY slowly, maybe 1mm per day. Don't know what it eats, but it is growing. The apex of the shell is at the back close to the red spot, not in the middle like a limpet. It must have been quite small when I got it, as I used dry base rock instead of live rock, so it had to have come on one of my snails or on one of my small coral frags.

No one seems to ever be able to identify my critters!

Was looking at my tank when the lights where off and saw a snail like critter crawling on my rocks. It does not seem to have a shell can anyone ID it? It's in the centre of the pic, it has good camo. Hope the pic is ok was not easy to get with the lights out.

Hard to tell for sure from the picture but I think it's a stomatella. A good guy.

Seems like a new critter every night

Me again

Seems like every night now I'm finding a new critter on my rocks. I'm hoping this isn't a bad one. It was flat and moved very slowly. My guess is some type of flat worm. I sucked it out of my tank didn't want to take a chance. If it is indeed a flat worm can they survive in my tank even though I don't have any corals?

This is a batch of live rock that keeps on giving! I got about 10lbs from the LFS of this almost a month ago to cycle my new tank. Almost immediately, I found that it was riddled with Aiptasia and a small amount of bubble algae. I took the rocks out of the tank and removed all the aiptasia and bubble algae and put them back in.

All of the rocks but this one appear to have stayed pest free since my cleaning. A few bits of aiptasia came back on this one that I'll be removing shortly. When I was looking at the aiptasia, I noticed something else growing on the rock.

When you look real closely, there are a dozen+ of these very fine strands coming out of the bigger pores of the live rock. On all sides of it too, not just one area. To the naked eye, it looks like alternating bands of black and white going up the strand. They seem to be growing longer every day. This live rock has some bigger chambers inside that connect to the surface through smaller pores.

The pieces near the aiptasia came out the clearest in the picture. If anyone can identify this, I'd greatly appreciate it!

I agree those are brittle star fish. VERY good to see. Let them be and they will move around. The edges on their arms help keep areas clean plus they scavenge for things that fall in the rock.

looks like a acropora eating flatworm to me dont quote me on that though and i believe they can survive with no coral
