planning haddoni - are these fish safe?

My current tank inhabitants include:

1 - blonde naso tang
1 - purple tang
1 - juvenile emperor angel
1 - potters angel
2 - clarkii clowns
3 - lyretail anthias (1x male, 2x female)
1 - borbonius anthias
1 - red headed salon fairy wrasse
1 - flame fairy wrasse
1 - mckosker's flasher wrasse
1 - midas blenny
1 - starry blenny

I was thinking of getting a haddoni anemone to host my clarkii's - are any of my existing fish at risk with the aggressive behavior of the haddoni?

How big is your tank? The bigger the better.
Does your tank light go out abruptly, even change level abruptly? Started fish are often anemone food.

Make sure then you clean your tank, consider have something go over the carpet. I certainly lost more than one fish when I maintain my tank. Last one was a beautiful healthy Australian Harlequin Tusk. Several years ago it was a healthy large Power Blue Tang

Blenny are at risk just from their swimming habits.
I have a lot of anemones in my tank, and I cannot keep any wrasse. They are all become anemone food. Wrasse are exceptional swimmer but some how this does not translate to avoid anemone danger. The same with Orchid Dottyback.

On the flip side, your emperor angel could nip at the haddoni, possibly even the potters, though the Clarkii could probably keep them away.

Thanks for the advice, Minh! It is a standard 125 - 6ft long. I have LEDs that dim from full brightness to off over a 3 hour period (and same 3 hour period to go from off to full brightness), so I wouldn't be worried about startling the fish with the light.

Would a plastic pasta strainer be a good cover during cleaning?

Do you think that the wrasses were anemone food because you had so many anemones, in which case I might be safe with only the one anemone? Or should I consider relocating the wrasses?

hmm.... I didn't think of that. hopefully the clarkiis will defend their territory well enough, because I don't want to get rid of either of those angels.

I think the wrasse are too inquisitive for their own good. A case of curious kill the cat. Any Haddoni keeper here with wrasse in their tank?

my 3 year old green haddoni is in a tank by itself, even ate the clowns i have tried to keep with it

I have a mystery wrasse for about year and a melanurus wrasse for 3 years in a 300 gallon with 2 haddoni about 8 - 10 inches each. Probably just cursed myself.

Lost a bicolor blenny and Flame Hawk as dinner or maybe breakfast.

Mine has eaten everything. And I mean everything except my clowns. And has just gotten bigger because of it. Now I only keep my clowns. Granted it's in a 40B. By goby lived fine with it for 6-8 months until one day it got him. Carpets are best in a species tank. Or a tank with fish that aren't insanely expensive.

No fish are safe with them. Years ago I saw one eat a leopard shark in a 10ft round pond.

Yea fairly true, no fish is safe but if you get lucky and have some clowns to host it they get pretty territorial with it and would probably keep everyone else away.

I've lost 1 clown, 1 blood shrimp, 2 foxface and god knows what else. I've got 2 Haddoni in there. My purple one is paired up with 2 snowflake clownfish so it causes no issues but the green haddoni just kills every flipping thing that touches it. Only thing that constantly cheats death is my cleaner shrimp, it prances around all over it with total disregard for it's life.

I thought decorative shrimp were considered highly likely to be eaten by haddonis? Are cleaner shrimp generally considered safe for haddonis?

I've never lost a cleaner shrimp to an anemone. And they try their luck that's for sure. Their legs get stuck to it all the time but they manage to scurry off. Probably because their feet are so tiny. My sexy shrimp play on my haddoni as well.

I had cleaner shrimp killed by Haddoni before, but often, they are much more resistant than to anemone sting. They can pull off if only their feed involved. If the anemone got hold of the shrimp body, then there is no way he can escapes.

I have had multiple haddonis for years now, and they have eaten their fair share of fish over time, some fish learn and some do not. but odds are good that the one fish you do not want eaten will be one of the first to be eaten. These guys can eat some really BIG fish. your mileage may vary. Good luck
