Hi folks! I just found this thread. I have some questions about what I researched and put in my DT. I have four green chromis. One died in the QT. He wouldn't come out and eat. Now the other four are doing fine eating, but one is smaller and blotchy. He sleeps alone by the refugium. The largest does bully him. Should I put him back into the QT as his home? I don't want them to kill him. Also, I got a yellow watchman goby and a fire shrimp. They hung out for a day or two and have since disappeared. Will they come back out? Are they shacking up? Should I move the rocks or will it **** them off? All input is appreciated. I thought I had chosen my fishies wisely.....Lauri

This thread is only about Marine Fish Compatibility and is answered only by Reef Central Staff. As such, unlike other threads on Reef Central, it is not a discussion thread. It is best to start a separate thread in the New to the Hobby Forum.

I have a 300 gal tank and currently in it is a 5" Yellow, Powder Blue, Sailfin Tang. Three antias, 2 chromis, goby and one clown. I would like to add a Mustard tang and a Naso Tang. The Naso would come later in the future, but I can get the mustard tang as early as today. Tank is 96"Lx31"Wx25"H

The sailfin and yellow tangs are the most likely aggressors. In an 8 foot tank, I would rate the odds as 50/50 that it would work. Adding tangs to existing tanks is always a roll of the dice. The older and more established the existing tangs, the more likelihood of problems.

Hi, I recently just got a 36 gallon display tank and 30 gallon sump. And I have one Blue Hippo tang the size of a quarter in the QT . but later on I would like to add a dwarf zebra lionfish at the minimum size and a diamond goby....let em know if you think this is not a good choice or If you have any other ideas let me know? thank you,

Reef Central's recommended minimum tank size for a Blue Hepatus tang is 240 gallons. A dwarf lionfish will eat the hepatus tang and any other fish you put in a 36 gallon tank

As those who follow this thread know, I do not provide recommendations for a variety of reasons. However an 8 gallon tank is somewhat self limiting, at least with regards to fish.

Exactly for being a limited space, I need recommendations on corals and a few fish. I am thinking:

1 false percula
1 fire fish goby
1 clown goby

Then for corals I have no idea as my previous tank was a 72 gal corner FOWLR.

Except as noted, the other two fish are fine.

So, LA sent me a Tanaka pygmy wrasse instead of white banded possum wrasse that I ordered. Credit is fine, but what to do with this fish.....i can't have both...so wait til they get in a possum and sell this one, or is this one just as nice?

I am thinking:

1 fire fish goby
1 clown goby
1 cleaner shrimp
1 fire shrimp
1 blue legged hermit

No idea on cleaner crew for this size.

This one is behaviorally identical. But you are correct you cannot mix two of them. I have had all three species; my personal preference would be to keep the Tanaka pygmy.

Previously asked and answered. The A. percula needs a larger tank

Advise on stocking 280 gallon tank

Advise on stocking 280 gallon tank

I currently have 3 chromis, 2 clowns, 2 gold headed sleeped gobies, and a magnificent fax face.

My "roadmap" going forward includes the following fish in order of entry. I will add them slow and steady but would love any input on any fish that you think will not be compatible in this list, any changes, etc. All input is appreciated

1. Solorensus and Scott's fairy wrasses
2. Mated pair of Bellus Angels (any suggestions of where to find? - I have emailed live aquaria)
3. Flame angel
4. Leopard Pufferfish (like that it only gets to be a few inches but love the puffer's personality)
5. Bi-Color Goatfish (ok...if you are a wrestling fan my son wants this fish to name him Daniel Bryan...wwe fans will get this)
6. Carpet anenome for the clowns (even though its a fish only set up I do have excellent lighting - vegas, and equipment so hoping it will work)
7. Harlequin tusk (from Austrailia of course)
8. Blond Naso Tang (also considering white cheek or yellow belly regal blue tang)
9. Pakistan Butterfly
10. Blue jaw trigger
11. Blue face angel
12. Red sea sailfin tang

Thanks again!

1. Solorensus and Scott's fairy wrasses two of the more aggressive fairy wrasses; also, absent a female, both will lose some slight amount of coloration
2. Mated pair of Bellus Angels (any suggestions of where to find? - I have emailed live aquaria) Live Aquaria is the most reliable. However, simply getting a male and female does not always work; in a 280 g tank, maybe so maybe not
3. Flame angel
4. Leopard Pufferfish (like that it only gets to be a few inches but love the puffer's personality) Green Spotted Puffers are an extremely dirty fish and are very messy eaters leaving scraps of food throughout the aquarium. They also produce a large amount of ammonia. Because of this it is best to give 30gallons of space per fish. They are extremely aggressive. I
The aggressive behavior of GSPs makes it difficult to keep them with tank mates. Similar sized puffers, certain clownfish, and a few other similar sized semi-aggessive marine fish can be successfully kept with GSPs, as long as there is enough tank space and plenty of hiding spaces.
The intelligence of puffers is rivaled by few other fish. They learn very quickly who feeds them and will happily swim to the front of the tank hoping for something to eat. Because of their high intelligence they need to have plenty of decor and broken lines of site to keep them interested. Bored puffers will often pace at the front of the glass. This behavior will seem tedious.
The most expensive part about Green Spotted Puffers (besides the initial set up) is the food. Like rodents, they have large teeth that continue to grow throughout their lives. To wear down their teeth they need a steady diet of hard meaty foods such as: scallops, oysters, clams, crabs, crayfish, and especially snails. Freeze dried foods or krill is not a sufficient diet and should only be given occasionally as a treat.

5. Bi-Color Goatfish (ok...if you are a wrestling fan my son wants this fish to name him Daniel Bryan...wwe fans will get this)
6. Carpet anenome for the clowns (even though its a fish only set up I do have excellent lighting - vegas, and equipment so hoping it will work) make sure your clown species will associate with a carpet anemone
7. Harlequin tusk (from Austrailia of course) not clean up crew friendly, will eat small fish
8. Blond Naso Tang (also considering white cheek or yellow belly regal blue tang)
9. Pakistan Butterfly
10. Blue jaw trigger not clean up crew friendly
11. Blue face angel
12. Red sea sailfin tang

Thanks again!

The large number of largish fish will make your tank seem small

Thanks Steve. I know you do not typically recommend specific fish, but is there an alternative Puffer that may not be as messy or aggressive (such as the Saddle Valentini?) or does it not make a difference even with the smaller size puffers? Also do they all typically have that same intelligence or are some more of that stereotypical genious than other puffers?

I dont mind the hard meaty foods required (thanks for that tip) but are they typically ok with the other fish listed?

Good to occasionally change the decor in the tank for the puffers (and the other fish too for that matter) or does that disrupt their overall comfort of their established hiding places/territory?

With respect to the wrasses would a melanarus be more compatible with a solorensus than a scott's? Other options that may be more compatible with the Solorensus? (not so much asking your preference which I know you do not prefer, but just inquiring as to what may be more compatible)

Thanks again!
