Gobies:
Would a Pink Diamond Watchman be compatible with a Tangaroa Goby (Ctenogobiops tangaroai) in a 90 gallon? If so, would I add them at the same time?
Thanks.
Should be fine. Order is immaterial.

Purchased an established tank that had been running for over two years. 50 Gallon Acrylic with T5 lighting and canister filter. Came with a Blue Hippo Tang that was clearly to big for the tank. Took to the LFS for trade in.
Current stock list:
Paired Occelaris
Clarkii remove
(3) Three Striped Damsels - Hoping to trade or sell remove
Lawnmower Blenny
Blue Damsel remove
Peppermint Shrimp
Considering to add:
Melanarus Wrasse
Flame Angel
Catalina or Watchman Goby requires cooler temperature for long term survival
I think the additions will be to much fish in the tank. Hoping that if I get rid of the damsels the fish below will work?
Hi there, awesome thread!
Tank is 36x18x19, basically a taller 40br, with 35 lbs live rock, 3/4" sand bed, and a 29g sump with a skimmer and room for macro algae. The tank has 40g of actual water in the display and another 15g in the sump. LED lighting, and I'm planning a mixed reef.
Stocking plan:
2x Ocellaris clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris)
and either
3x Carpenter's Flasher Wrasse (Paracheilinus carpenteri)
or
3x Yellowfin Flasher Wrasse (Paracheilinus flavianalis)
So the real question is, can I keep a harem of wrasses in the same tank as the clowns? Would both harems be pushing it?
I've just finished cycling the tank, and already have the clowns. They're in QT now.
Thank you in advance.
Really, flasher wrasses need a slightly larger tank and must have a tightly covered tank (not egg crate) as they are prolific jumpers. For a single harem, I would look at 60-70 gallons as a minimum. Clownfish of that species, once sexually mature, will try to control about 25 gallons of tank space.
Hmm... I was under the impression one could keep wrasses in a smaller tank. Sad (especially since my wife really likes them)
possum wrasses work, highly active wrasses like flasher or fairy wrasse, especially in numbers greater than one, require larger tanks
, but I had a plan B. in conjunction with the two Clowns, would the following work?
1x Blue Chromis (Chromis viridis) chromis have been coming in less than healthy
1x Catalina Goby (Lythrypnus dalli) requires cool temperatures for long term survival
1x Helfrichi Firefish (Nemateleotris helfrichi)
1x Tail Spot Blenny (Ecsenius stigmatura)
Kinda like the Midas Blenny (Ecsenius midas) as well, but that species seems aggressive.
New to the hobby, and just getting going, but very interested in thoughts on the below.
Tank
- 36 x 24 x18
- 65 Gallon
- Sump with Refugium
Currently FOWLR! But have a long desire to add corals, but don't know enough about all that at this point, except some fish aren't reef safe. Here are the fishes I'm currently interested in, in no particular order.
- Flame Angel Fish not reef safe especially towards meaty LPS corals
- Foxface One Spot
- Green Mandarin pair Your tank, once mature, may support one mandarin with a refugium but will not support a pair
- Goby - are there good and bad?
- Feather Duster (wrasse) I do not understand the conjunction of feather dusters and wrasse
- Flasher wrasse
- Blue Sapphire Damselfish
- Chromis school Well, they will not school, will reduce down to one or at most two, and have been coming in with symptoms of uronema so I do not recommend for any of those reasons
What are thoughts on having a diverse and lively tank.
Thanks. Scott
I am setting up a 220 mixed reef and I am looking at 2-3 tangs but am curious about some type of schooling fish to go with the tangs (I thought bangaii's were but was mistaken). Any recommendations would be fantastic.
Clearly too many fish for this sized tank. If you provide a smaller list, I can indicate bioload suitability.
76 gal dt with sump /fuge 140 gal total volume, live rock, skimmer, mixed reef, 1 ocellaris clown, 1 kole tang, 1 green mandarin dragonet, 1 green clown goby, 1 cleaner shrimp, cuc snails and scarlet crabs, rainbow anemone.
want to add
2 spotted cardinafish
2- zebra barred dartfish
2 vanderbuilt chromis
1- black and white clown
I see no problems. Be sure the clown added is very small relative to the other one
just want to add some movement in tank
peaceful and reef safe is most important
any better suggestions welcome
thanks
